I think if they lost both against NJ, Laviolette would have been fired by now.
I could see Holmgren walking the plank, too. I'm sure Ron Hextall could have his arm twisted to return. - Jsaquella
It's probably a biased opinion, but I think if Homer goes, the odds are excellent that it's Hexy that comes in to replace him. |

ya know what tho? How about someone with no ties to the organization? I'm tired of the good old boy network. I mean what's the point? Get someone in here that can think outside the box, plz? Stop trying to build last year's cup winner, get a definite identity that actually works, like not building a team with WWF ideals as we saw in the 90's. Hell do the devils have anyone in their organization we could look at? or how about Detroit? LA won a cup last year, whoop de (frank)ing doo! Get me someone from a proven winning organization or just forget it already. |

Forwards are a dime a dozen IMO. Not many defenseman in the league that are on elite level like a Weber. I'm a big believer that you need to play defense to win a championship.
If I was drafting and their were two players of equal value defenseman or forward, I'm taking the defenseman. - stveshdy
Forwards have to play defense, too, although I can forgive you if you forgot that watching this Flyers play this year. |

Look on one hand I'm not gonna go on a depression spree because they haven't won a cup since the wheel was invented, but on the other hand, just stop with the charade. If you're firing a guy because "he didn't get it done" then go (frank)ing get someone who will. |

I have no issue if they bring in Hextall or keep Holmgren, to be honest. Just working for another organization doesn't mean a Stanley Cup will follow.
I'd love to see them hire Jim Nill, but he's refused interviews a few times and is likely why Steve Yzerman went to Tampa Bay, because he's the heir apparent in Detroit. |

What is Hextall gonna do, that Holmgren couldn't? I just would like to see see for the first time since the first Bush was president, someone who wasn't a player here be a gm maybe, I don't know. |

Imagine Lou L down the pike in Newark hiring a "fire wagon hockey" type of coach,
there's the identity of an organization.

I think the fact that the Kings won the cup last year is a big deal, and it shows a track record for the organization. Just because Hexy wa shere before doesn't mean that the Kings employed the same strategy as we have. I think that Lombardi did what we should do. Build from the net out ..with Quick and Bernier, then built through the draft with Doughty etc. Then with some solid UFA signing and trades of youth and prospects for key vets like Richie and Carter, and a coach change.. they sneak in to the dancce and get on a roll for a cup. Thing I noticed with them a few years ago is that you could see they set out a plan over several years and stuck to it. Lombardi was the A/GM here and woud be an old boys guy.. He set this plan in motion. I can only expect that Hexy was at his side to either partake or at least observe the plan as it came to fruition. I would expect Hexy would be smart enough to try it here. |

How did that work out, last time it wasn't a former player? I seem to recall 5 years without a playoff appearance.
I'm not willing to discount anyone just because they played for the Flyers organization.
I'd have Dave Poulin on my list as well, but mainly because of his education in finance. |

I want to see the team win but I think the fire wagon has been burnt to a cinder here. Yes, this organization needs a real identity. I for one would like something that is balanced and frugal. Not a trap or sleep inducing bore fest either. BUt something that plays well in all three zones while the organization can draft well and recruit well. THe FLyers seem like they draft good in the first round and then forget it. |

Allright but if we're gonna stay stuck in this so-called hockey purgatory by always being a bridesmaid and never the bride, then what is the point of firing Homer to replace him with Hextall? It's not like age is a factor at the executive position. |

Because nobody can honestly say what Hextall's organizational plan would be. Maybe he's got different ideas than Holmgren does, maybe he realizes the importance of being a good two way team and sees what they accomplished in LA as the way to get there.
Just because a guy played here doesn't mean he'll be the same as Holmgren or Clarke. |

This is a good explanation or pitch for hextall to be GM, I just hope it works, should it come to fruition. But he did come up through this organization and IMO the Kings didn't do anything that creative. Quick got hot and the team did what they needed to do to close the deal imo. Nothing wrong with that but if we're gonna plan on that happening for us, it might be another 30 years before we do see another cup. In that case might as well just keep homer till he drops dead. |

It seems funny that the owner & GM were vocal about the system being too offensive before the season, is it more that the coach refuses to make adjustments? I don't know, but the system or structure thereof seems to be one of the issues. |

I know but Poulin is an exception, I think. He's a guy that is educated and was a player that got where he was imo more by good ol' fashioned hard work and desire than by talent. His work ethic as a player was again imo, second to none. That combination of work ethic and smarts just might be what they are missing. Not saying Homer and C.O are stupid or dumb but hey maybe Poulin has it. However getting back to my original suggestion, I want someone out of the network anyway. |

the problem is they don't have a defined box. The flyers are all over the place. Every 5 years or so its something different.
Edit: the only constant with them is drafting forwards. |
