Don't diss Shelley yo'. Been in the league for many years collecting a paycheck. The guy is crucial for keeping a locker room together and showing these young chumps how to work hard. |

It doesn't solve the problem they can't play defense as a TEAM which if they could the defense they have now wouldn't look that bad. |

not exactly an even comparison, imo, but the overall point is valid. no reason to trade a high end prospect for a guy like talbot
if i'm homer though, i don't trade him to the pens otherwise (so talbot wouldn't be going back to pitt) - FlyerMike18
The problem is, every year we see a stupid deadline trade or two where teams looking at short term possibilities make deals they otherwise wouldn't.
That said, Talbot for Maatta is unlikely.

That's not going to change anytime soon. So the other option is to get more mobility on the blueline to play this style.
I wouldn't make that deal with Buffalo either. Myers doesn't impress me at all. |

I agree with that. However, I do think there is a glaring hole in our Dman long term. The young hopeful #1 is no where to be found in the system. Myers is exactly the D equivalent of Coots right now. I see it as a hockey trade, position of strength for position of need. |

Everything I've said about Shelley is true. The guy is good for the locker room. The example he sets in practice is good for the team. No? |

I disagree, strongly, that Myers is the defenseman equivalent of Couturier.
Couturier is in his second season, has a modest contract that has a short term, and is likely mired in a sophomore slump.
Myers is in his 4th season. His level of play has declined in each season from his rookie year and he's locked in to a huge contract, with 6 years left after this one, at $5.5mm per. |

Shelley's wonderful for a good team that has the luxury. He's worthless for a team that is in what looks to be a losing fight to make the playoffs. |

Healthy scratch for a couple of games this season. Dude is a fraud. As stated he hasn't improved at all. He's getting worse each year. |
