On that list there's zero "great" options...couple of good ones, but they'll be overpaid second pair guys like Smid and Hainsey. Whitney would be interesting, assuming he'd accept a "Let's see what happens" deal, sort of like Souray did a couple years ago.
I do like Ian White. - Jsaquella
i think i'm in favor of going for a jagr-esque short term deal for an older player. then try to stock the cupboard with prospects
would be great if they could snag one of those highly rated college FAs |

Thats what negotiations are all about. Phoenix will start off with a ridiculous offer and then its the GM's job to counter it. I won't count out getting Yandle. - stveshdy
Hope Homer does well.
I like Yandle and think he would be a solid addition in many ways.
His puck transition and offensive skills are really good.
Maybe pair him with Grossmann or Luke Schenn.
I guess my preference would be a younger less established player that might have some question marks, but wouldn't cost a Couts or B Schenn.
But Yandle would help a lot I think. |

Yandle in a trade will cost a lot.
Asking price is rumored to be a young defenseman, high draft pick and prospect.
Phoenix likely will want to dump salary in the deal, so its unlikely they would want one of our $3.5-4.5M/yr defenseman back in a deal.
So for the Flyers a young forward (Schenn or Couts) + prospect + high draft pick.
Too rich for me. - Marc D
Agreed Mark. If I'm going to pay that price, it better be an all situations high minute defenseman. Not for a offensive PP specialist that has to be kept away from tough defensive matchups.

Cross Pietrangelo off that list, no shot at getting him. And probably the same for Bogosian and Shattenkirk.. Don't know why the Flyers would be interested in Smid, Hainsey or Murray. - MJL
Until Pietrangelo is signed, he is a pending RFA. Same for Shattenkirk and Bogosian. Until they are re-signed, they are still RFAs to be. To me, that means we would have at least a very small "chance".
Why wouldn't Homer offer-sheet the crap out of St. Louis? He has shown with Weber that he is willing to break the "code" and go the offer-sheet route to get us a #1 elite d-man. After seeing Bogosian both games this weekend, he confirmed to me that he is a mini-Pronger, IMO. I might want him more than the Blues duo.
I did say my targets, I didn't say Homer would target Smid, Hainsey, or Murray. Smid I like, basically a younger Mesz to a degree. Hainsey or Murray I'd like if we were to move, say, Coburn and/or Mesz. |

if it's not ok to sign RFA then why even have it? screw the stupid code and quit QQing if your team can't compete on salary |

I don't want Holmgren going anywhere near the Phoenix defensemen. Rundblad is still a big question mark as to whether he can play in the NHL and Yandle is a slighty better Matt Carle. Don Maloney always gets other teams to overpay for his players because he is under no pressure to win himself. He can wait out any other GM. It really isn't a good situation to negotiate against. The Flyers should pursue other options. |

That's the problem, they are hard to get. But that doesn't mean you overpay for a lesser player because of it.

St. Louis isn't going to let Pietrangelo get away. And Smid doesn't have the two way ability that Meszaros does.

So that's what it takes for Lavy to make an example out of a veteran, is the veteran needs to take a dumb penalty... |

This has to be his last game, get someone in here to start ending the bad habits and sloppy play. Why let it carry over into next year? |
