I think the Flyers can find a better option if they are patient. JBo can skate the puck which would be a bonus for this club. I'm just not a fan of giving up top picks or a core forward to get him and that cap hit. Look elsewhere. - stveshdy

I would have taken hamilton, and if all it took to get weber was to move two guys that the FLyers basically draft every year in the first round, then homer should be in the unemployment line and snider should be resigned as what the hell ever he is these days. - JoeRussomanno
There was a reason why Coots' stock dropped at the draft and it wasn't because of mono. Teams know that would've cleared up and would not have a lasting effect on his abilities. |

My willingness to trade him for a number one defenseman and my wishing we took hamilton instead isn't bashing him. However I'm not sure what your point is other than perhaps he's a little overhyped? |

With 19 games left, it seems to me that the absolute least amount of wins the Flyers will need is 14. Funnily enough, it will likely be what happens during their 5 days off that determines a lot of what ultimately happens to this team, as the 5 day respite will see most, if not all, the teams they need to leap frog catch up to them in games played.
Can a team that hasn't won 3 in a row all season long pull off a 14-5 record over the next 6 weeks? It seems highly unlikely, but if they can pull it off, they will be incredibly hot at just the right time. - Jsaquella
What makes matters even worse is that the teams we need to leapfrog are constantly playing one another - and one of those teams will always get the 2 points. Not to mention all the 3 point games that teams above us will have.
There's always gonna be a few teams that are basically maintaining their lead over the Flyers, even IF we do start playing .730 hockey.
I'm pretty pessimistic about this ... which sucks because I'm very much a glass-half-full kind of guy. I just don't see it happening.

Couturier for Hamilton (straight up). |

The Flyers are not going to make the playoffs. They struggle to beat teams in their own division. |

the consensus on the board here was take hamilton, but there were def some who follow the prospects who said couts was undervalued. i figured it was close enuf in value to go for need. i believe couts will bounce back nxt yr...esp if his first strides improve and he continues to get stronger. |

agreed ... plus better team defensive play as a whole will help his type of game tremendously. |

I never said they were bogus, only that perhaps you fail to realize what they are. They report what they hear. That has been demonstrated and explained ad nausea um to not be taken for gospel as you are doing. Reason being is there is a lot of smoke and mirrors involved. Furthermore you are safely assuming that COut/Schenn or both were not offered by the Flyers while overlooking that it might have taken more than them from Nashville to acquire the rights to Weber. Furthermore what happened in a botched trade transaction last summer has little to no bearing whatsoever on any possible future transactions. - JoeRussomanno
ok, it's all a mute point as of now,Weber not going anywhere & everything I read had no validity, got it.
I would dangle Courturier for a young defenseman (if I could do a another JVR type transaction involving Read I would jump on it), but it appears Schenn will be our #2 center & if Talbot is #3.
This defense is doomed if they don't get another serviceable top 4 type, I don't see Kimmo still playing at the level we're accustomed to by next year, despite the $6 million extension. |

I'm not bashing him at all. I actually like what he'll bring as his experience widens.
I just think it'll eventually be a strong checking center with 20 goal capabilities. His skating isn't where it should be for a top center, nor is his touch around the net. Both, hopefully, will develop. A Jordan Staal-like player would be great.
I would've taken Hamilton also because it's easier to find a player similar to Coots than a potential #1 d-man with great size and mobility.

I think some of you guys are really overvaluing Read's current trade value. Good young player, yes. But he is a UFA after next year. He is not getting us a top defenseman without high picks being included. IMO I re-sign him and shop B Schenn or Coots. |

Supposedly the asking price for Bouwmeester is Couturier or Schenn or Read +.
If I'm the Flyers, I think really hard about agreeing to move Read, so long as that + isn't their first rounder. - Jsaquella
I'd move Read. I like the guy, but he is 26 so what you see is what you get, there is no real upside, also he will be in line for a huge raise in 14-15 and it will be hard to do with Giroux, Couturier and Schenn all starting new deals that year and finally, they really need help on D badly, especially a durable puck mover like Bouwmeester. |

if that was all it took, you don't think the Flyers would have bit on that? It be pretty dumb not to. It seemed more like the Flyers were the ones who made the desperation move with that offer sheet, in hindsight. - JoeRussomanno
I think it was probably them and 2 first rounders. But I also don't think that they're keen on moving Couturier or Schenn in any trade |

I personally think it was more than those two nashville wanted, myself. Trading them for a Weber-type dman isn't just a trade for any player. |

Yeah, them plus two first rounders is what I'd expect Nashville to want.
But Holmgren was ready to give up 4 1st rounders with the offer sheet, so you have to think that it was because he wasn't willing to move them. |

I value defenseman much higher than a forward. I don't know what was offered but getting offense isn't hard to do so I would be willing to part with any to get a franchise guy like Weber. |

he would need the draft picks to recoup those players. I can understand not wanting to shed the players and the picks but not being unwilling to part with just the players. The Flyers can replace them through the draft. Unfortunately they cannot or have been unable to draft a defenseman of Weber's caliber. |
