He's one of the reasons your defense is bad. He's a 4th-5th d-man at best. - Orpik44
I don't think he should be a top pairing d-man, I agree. That said, Flyers don't have much of an option unless they make a trade.
That's why I find it laughable that everyone keeps trying to pick away at this trade. It was a bum player for another bum player. One is just doing slightly better now. It won't last. |

I don't think there's any GM that is dumb enough to take on Briere's salary at this point but then again Gomez was moved before so it's anyone's guess.
If Flyers could rid themselves of his salary they could be HUGE players for a guy like Corey Perry in the off-season. |

People are very quick to judge the JVR/Schenn trade.
The reason Holmgren let him go in the first place is because he's soft. Yes, he looks great for Toronto right now, but as someone else said, he's in TO for the next 6 years now. You'll have plenty of time to see everything we did in Philadelphia with JVR. Dude never deserved to be 2nd overall pick.
Schenn is on a bad defense as a top pairing d-man (tells you how bad flyers defense is) so I don't really see how anyone could judge the trade at all. It was a D for a F. Of course the forward is going to score, it's his job. Where else would they have put JVR other than top line? Half the team is garbage.
I think it was a very fair trade and all the TO homers may be having a good laugh now, but just like every other year they'll be crying when they get sent home early. All it will take is one bad play for JVR to fall out of favor in TO. - dudebrah87
Issue is people judge defencemen on points which is unfair. Dman generally don't score a lot of points expecially Defensive Dmen like Schenn. Both players play completely different positions and I think both are doing just as well with their respected teams. Philly's issue is the lack of transition, poor play by underachieving Dmen and no PP quarterback. Getting out of the Flyers end without a turnover has been an issue, mostly with guys like Coburn, Grossman, Meszaros and Gervais. Gervais has been brutal for Philly. Should not even be a roster player. Coburn was expected to step up and shoulder some of the load in Carle's absence but he has done the opposite. He turns the puck over often, spends the majority of the game sliding on his stomach trying to make up for his mistakes and he takes so many dumb penalties. Meszaros just got back from many injuries so I'll give him time to get his sh*t together. Grossman has been marginal at best. As for our PP we give up too many shorthanded goals because we have no Dmen capable of quartbacking a PP. Timonen does our first unit but we have to throw someone like Read there who is going to make the offensive decision 1st which usually leads to an odd man rush. Flyers i think lead that statistic of odd man rushes against |

I'm very serious. I've always been a Bryz supporter. Fleury is not that much better. Yeah he has his Cup, but that aside, he was exposed. Especially in last years playoffs. Some people expected that of Bryz. Not Fleury. |

Watch Fleury when it isnt against the Flyers haha its alot better of a game. Flyers games are pretty much a duel when two guys just try and shoot eachother as many times as they can before they both die. |

I have. I always like to keep tabs on what my rivals are doing
I'm no n00b to hockey. I've watched my whole life and played for years. Again, it's just my own opinion. But I don't see much that shows me Fleury is much better than Bryz.
Bryzgalov has been under the microscope worse than Fleury. Every poop Bryz takes is scrutinized. It's a bit unfair, but that's how it is with goaltenders in Philadelphia. Bryz has played WAY better this year and you also have to take into consideration he's started all but 2 games this year, and the Flyers have played more games than almost every team in the NHL up until now.
Anyone who watched Bryz last year and this year would agree that Bryz has been solid this year for the most part. If you don't agree, you haven't been watching hockey.
Once the Flyers find their second coming of Pronger, they will be very dangerous.

I don't know any Philly fan that thinks they're getting any of them, let alone any Philly fan that wants any of them.. - dudebrah87
I've seen your defense and you have crap in the farm system as far as blueliners (hell outside of Cousins and Laughton, you don't have much anyways), so saying no one would want a Despres is utterly ridiculous. He would be your best puck mover and probably your second or third best defenseman right now.
Regardless, Talbot doesn't fetch a D prospect, let alone Despres. |

Despres is solid. I'm not saying he's a bad player. But Despres would not fix Flyers woes. They're in the market for a more proven d-man. Campbell and Bouwmeester are much more likely. Also, Flyers would never make a Talbot/Despres swap. They covet Talbot, despite what some fans may think.

There's a reason Despres hasn't been moved yet.
He's unproven and he won't fetch much of a return. Maybe a 3rd round pick or a 3rd-4th liner. |
