yea I don't get that either are we trying to re-invent the wheel here? as far as I know player salary is a cost not a revenue or interest. If the team doesn't make the playoffs I don't see how this is a return on the investment. - JoeRussomanno
Because they promised their fans that their captain would not be going anywhere and that they'd match any offer made for him. So, if they had failed to match the offer, they could have lost a lot of the fan base that they've built (which is actually bigger than many people think, but not a well-established one). So if they lose paying customers because they didn't keep their word, lost their 2 best players, and lost their captain all in one year, they would generate less revenue. It is an operational cost, but hopefully the investment pays out in fanbase revenue. |

Speaking of Emery, how long of a contract is he currently on? If he's a UFA this summer, I would love to bring him on board to play with Bryz. It would haveto be more than a minimum contract, but I'd do two years at 1.5 mil a year to know we have a backup that can play more than 1 game which is a guranteed loss. Also, I can't see Homer not getting a puck moving dman in a trade. I was reading this morning that Wilson in SJ is in panic mode (rumour), and that a lot of players can be had. They started 7-0 and are now in 8th in the conference. Boyle would only be a short term fix and I am not sure what he has left in the tank. I wonder if Brent Burns would help at all? - Hextall271
They supposedly want a ton for Boyle and Burns has been playing wing since he returned from injury.
Pretty sure Emery is a free agent. Who knows what they will end up doing in goal. I could see them buying out Bryz or keeping him for another year and then buying him out or even keeping him until his deal is up. |

I heard this about the NHL as a whole with these lockouts now going on the third one, and guess what? the league comes back stronger everytime. SO what!? if they lose their best player, that's pro-sports it happens. They (frank)ed up miserably and now that they are looking to trade him just goes to show it. They should have signed him early on or traded him for a significant return. Their fanbase might be bigger than people think but I'm sure if they put posters of Duck Dynasty up in the stadium they wouldn't miss a beat if they had Nancy Kerrigan and Brian Boytano playing. |

I am starting to think that Bryz will beback next year but maybe bought out the summer after as next summer's crop of UFA goalies is underwhelming.. Backstrom?? I think the backup tender spot has to be shored up. I know what they were doing by having Leighton and Boucher come back (have bryz play as the main guy and give him 95 percent of starts with no controversy) but we need someone capable of winning a game here and there.. |

Are there confirmed reports that they're actively looking to trade him? Who are the teams they've contacted, and what are they looking to get in return?
And also, yes, the less-established fan bases do get hurt by things like lockouts; look at the Panthers and their $7/ticket season tix (after they planned on a 100% across-the-board increase). |

The issue of the backup would not be as big a trouble spot without the compressed schedule. The Flyers had the most compressed schedule of anyone, more back to backs and games early than anyone else. Now they get a chance to lick their wounds, and get ready for a stretch run, where they will need to win at a near .700 clip to make the playoffs. |

To get a good #1 D man, chances are some of those top skilled young players will be gone. - MJL
Agreed. Top tier NHL defensemen are sort of like LHP starting pitching in MLB. You have to throw the moon + the kitchen sink at them just to peek their GM's interest, next you have to surrender a monster-sized chunk of your cap space to acquire one. |

it was brought up on here by a poster nashville is looking to move him, I;m not saying lockouts don't hurt small teams but it doesn't hurt the league as whole and with revenue sharing, the teams hurting get a band aid anyway. Also this still doesn't prove the Preds would have went under if they moved Weber in a trade. |

I find that kind of funny for multiple reasons. First off, I believe the reason Bryz is playing so much isn't because the backups are that bad but because the Flyers have been trying to dig out of a huge hole since early in the season and Lavi has been riding Bryz because of that.
While the backups aren't the greatest Boucher is at least adequate with a good defensive team in front of him.
On the money for a backup front, some people on this board last year wanted to put Bob on waivers and hope he got claimed just to clear his salary because they wanted the backup to be making closer to 600k/yr rather than 1.5 mill. They thought that the Flyers would be lucky to get anything for a backup tender making that much money.

I think boucher would be capable, problem is they never really gave him a chance. |

Nashville isn't looking to trade him. There's not reports indicating that they are willing to move him or actively trying to trade him. |

Of note, I was never an advocate of trading Bob unless someone was willing to overpay. I wish we had him now. I like Bouch and Leighton, but have zero confidence that we could put them in to spell Bryz a game here and there and not be pissing away two points. |

It's a delicate balance for sure. Backups have to stay sharp withlimited work when most tenders need lots of playing time to get into a groove. I just would like someone who can play a larger chunk of games and give us a chance to win when they do. |

UFA on July 1st.
But I'm guessing he's a pretty happy camper in his current situation, so Chicago will have first dibs. |

It's much more believable if you include a 4th round draft pick.
I don't really care which side you put it on, but you really need to include the 4th round draft pick. |

Regardless, his comeback from that hip issue has been remarkable. I have cheered him on andit's good to see that he's had success. |
