In all seriousness, it reminds me a little bit of last year, with a strong top 3 (but no sure-fire superstars like Crosby/Stamkos) and a pretty solid field throughout the first round. If you need offense, you go for MacKinnon and Drouin. If you need defense or have a soul, you draft Jones. Luckily for the forwards, most NHL GMs traded their souls for 3rd round picks long ago.
- jmatchett

I would disagree with that. You're right about the sure fire superstar thing but the way I see it I would take anyone of Drouin/Jones/Mackinnon...maybe even Monahan over Yakupov. While this draft may not have the same hype the Tavares or Crosby draft had I would definitely rank it to be much better than last year.

I personally still hope we could do a Vanek for Bobby Ryan+ kind of deal.. but who knows....

I would do Ryan and Lydman's expiring contract...

- JVince11

They are not going to trade Ryan when Perry already has one foot out the door.

Yea because Vanek's 6 points in his last 11 games has been great... and his -1 rating is awesome too...

I can't wait to give him an 8M extension.

- JVince11

Really, all we doing is judging Vanek on his last 11 games????

That would be the dream scenario but if this team wants to go into full rebuild mode they may no longer consider that kind of offer even if it was available.

well all anyone else wants to judge him on is his first 12 games....

just reverting back to his streaky casper the ghost routine that he does every season.

One stride off the faceoff, Ovechkin was already pulling it to his backhand. Pominville reacted to this and tried reaching to poke check it off his backhand. However, Ovi was too quick and already had it on his forehand and released the shot. By the time Pommer reaches Ovi, the shot is already off his stick.

I put 75% of the blame on Hodgson who went 5W and 16L in the faceoff dot. And Rolston still had him taking faceoffs in the second and third period on the PP.

On the Caps first goal off a faceoff by Ovechkin, he skated right by him and then said after the game that the play happened to fast to defense it. I will steal this from the Bulldog, Pominville looks like he’s checked out. I’m not saying he doesn’t care and I don’t think his on ice play is intentional.

With Mcnabb , McCabe , Pysyk waiting in the wings I would find it hard to believe this organization takes Jones over Mackinnon and Drouin.

Schopp and Bulldog brought up some good points about Miller and Pomminville. Miller is always the one doing the talking, but he's the goalie. Pominville is the quiet one.

They said what do you do with Pomminville, de-masculate him and strip the "C" but re-sign him? Let him walk for nothing?

I think the writing is on the wall. The mistake was making him captain(and paying him 5.3 mil per). The choice to make him captain was the climax of the Ruff/Rehgeir post Briere/Drury era to prove themselves right and completely ignore the glaring need to blow it the frank up. Now they are painted in a corner with this guy. I think Pommer is the top candidate to get moved of the 'big 3'.

edit: I think we've all been there where you work at a place and some guy gets bumped up to management and everyone scratches their head and says "Him? Really? I mean we like the guy but....."

And then it really screws up motivation because a second tier guy is an charge and everyone else hits that glass ceiling until something is done about it.

I agree. Mackinnon or Droiun for me. Taking defense that early in the draft always scares me. they are just harder to project how they will turn out.

I remember getting killed at the beginning of the 2011-2012 season for saying that if Jason Pominville is the best they can come up with for a captain, then they have problems. There were rumors that Lindy Ruff didn't want his captain to take complete control of the room and overstep his authority at times, like Briere and Drury supposedly did. If that's true, then Pominville was the perfect candidate.

you people that are giving guys away like Vanek, Miller and Pommer for nothing but picks need serious help, are you for real? Earlier I read we should trade Ott as well? what the hell is going on here? You don't trade away those guys for NOTHING. So say if we get 1 of the top 3 picks, you really think this team will be better after all the trades we made? get real it will be worse. 1 guy and 5 picks doesn't change a team, it sets it back 5 more years.

Thank you haha. We don't want to take to Edmonton approach and ice a team full of 18 and 19 year olds. We are going to be bad for a few years now.
