Yea for 30 games Vanek has been better. Again then I agree. But he has not been our best player at all over the past 5 seasons - sbroads24
Wel that is good to hear. I would like to point out that this year matter more then the past.
I mean, Gilbert was amazing, but we are not comparing him to Vanek. Pommer and Vanek are both here right now, and as I see it, Vanek is the better player.

I can't wait to see what their third and 4th lines will look like next season. 25% of the cap in two players. - Nucker101
Ill play for 300K a year. Sign a waiver and everything to play below the NHL minimum. Now i cant skate, Shoot, Pass or hit. But I can sure talk them to death!
They are going to have to trade Ryan and Hiller for certain now and it cant be for anything that costs $$$!
LOL, you said Vanek is our best player. Aside from the first 11 games of the year, you lose the argument for the past 5 seasons. Better all around player- Pominville. - sbroads24
He's not s superstar. Superstars don't end the year with 26 goals and 61 pts. or 28 goals and 54 pts. He's a really good one sided player - sbroads24
Sure they do. Especially when they are guys like NAsh or Vanek who need a good centerman to get them the puck. Vanek has never been paired with an elite center. Hopefully Coho can become that. I think he can. I am real high on his game. He needs to work on his faceoffs and his Defennsive game, but for 22 years old he really impresses me.

Honestly it's not you personally but this fan base has amnesia sometimes. I'm guilty of it too. People forget how awful Vanek was for 60% of last year, and even after his first 10 games I knew either
A. Vanek would fall off a cliff
B. He would get hurt
or
C. Both A and B
Pominville has had points this year in 13 games, Vanek has had points this year in 16 games. - theblueandgold
what does his salry have to do with it. They will both be UFA's after next year, and will cost about the same. Vanek will probably get 1 mil more per year.
How does the new CBA introduce Salary? Is it still AAV or is it per year I cannot remember. I think it is AAV
Vanek I would resign and go.
7.75-7.75-7.75-7.75-6-4-3. That is a 6.28AAV. IMO it is a very realistic offer. It takes him till he is 36. His actual earning is $6.4MM so that is a raise of over a mil per year annually. - ImThatGuy
His cap hit would be the total salary in the deal, plus any bonuses, divided by the number of years
I doubt any "star" will sign for anything less than the max length
Vanek's current cap hit is 7.1m
Getzlaf & Perry just signed for 8.25mil
Vaneks deal will be at least 7.5... Keep in mind, it'll be a year later and Re-signing in Buffalo just isn't as attractive as Anaheim or Boston or a number of places that will pay Vanek (or Pommer or Miller) huge $$$, long term deals...
Noone was giving Vanek a pass. SB was saying Pommer is better then Vanek. Seemed like a pretty crazy stance considering the numbers - Pillar
Yes. Everyone gives Vanek a pass. As soon as someone complains about him being lazy, the Buffalo HockeyBuzz hivemind is here to defend him, because he scored 19 points in his first 10 games, 10 points in 2 of them!!!!!
Its annoying. Vanek takes too many nights off. People need to stop saying its due to injury. Everyone plays through injury.

I think he gets banged up alot and that why his production falls. Thats why they have given 3 games off this year. I think that was the plan coming into the year, to try and keep him fresh.

OK, well if he is taking so many nights off I wonder how many goals he'd have if started trying. He must be pretty amazing guy that can play less then half the time and still lead the team in scoring.

Can you really compare Vanek to Nash? Vanek had his 40 goal seasons on arguably the best team in the NHL. Nash had his on arguablt the worst
