This league is a joke. Clear bias. Calls usually go toward Canadian teams and Rangers and Pittsburgh. Like that we are three or four points out now with a tough schedule ahead. - mighty13duck
Pittsburgh has been called for 128 minor penalties.
Islanders have been called for 109 minor penalties.
Pittsburgh has been called for 128 minor penalties.
Islanders have been called for 109 minor penalties.
Pittsburgh had had 115 PP's.
Islanders have had 107 PP's.
Yes, clear bias.
Does anyone have a clip of this disallowed goal? - canadianpenfan
Skip to 3:12. It was a pretty bad call considering it was originally ruled a goal on the ice. Unless there's some angle I haven't seen I'd say there was nothing "distinct" about any kicking motion. I couldn't find a single reason that should have been overturned. Had it been ruled no-goal on the ice, I could maybe understand upholding the original call. I think they got that one wrong.
Not blaming the refs for the loss either, especially considering Toronto makes that ruling.
Edit: The highlights left out a few different angles, and for some reason on the broadcast that overhead angle skipped a few frames so it's tough to see it there.
the islanders benefit from officiating more than almost any team in the league. your team is one of the lowest penalized teams in the league, and you are in the top 10 for PP opportunities.......
so PLEASE, continue crying about how the refs steal games from you....and completely ignore the fact that your team choked their asses off. - sensarmy_11
You can't tell me objectively that aucoins goal shouldn't of counted and that your winning goal wasn't a product of blatant high stick call. It's stuff like that we are referring too. We also have played 3 games this year with 0 power plays.
(frank) Sens fans for saying how impressive it is they came back with the Methot injury...they don't win poop without the refs help. - NYIDRIVE4FIVE
This embarassing loss is not the refs fault. Its the Isles fault. They simply can't shut the door on teams. They are the worst team in hockey when it comes to playing with a third period lead. They were up two goals, at home, to a shorthanded team playing their third game in four nights. They should have never needed Aucoin's second goal that wasn't. it shouldn't have come to that. Good teams, playoff caliber teams, don't blow third period leads night in and night out. Can't expect the team to make the playoffs if they can't close opponents out in the third period.

That's not a great replay but from what I can see I would have to agree. He definitely directed it but I don't see a kicking motion and I certainly don't see a definitive one that would make them overturn the call on the ice. But again they might have had a different angle that showed it better.

It looks like its that stopping motion when you hit the crease? I didn't really see it to be honest but I caught it quick. Looked to be a good goal. Tough break

Do they try and clamp down to protect a lead and are just bad at it or does their style of play not change?

They have a fragile psyche. They wait for the bottom to fall out. They play as if they expect the other team to come back on them. What makes it worse is that every other team in hockey probably goes into the third losing to the Isles knowing that the game isn't over and if they just keep playing hard, the Isles will throw the game away, which is what they did tonight and do most nights they're leading going into the third. Its completely mental. They expect bad bounces and bad karma and they get it because that's their mindset.
Most interesting game I've seen all year and neither team deserved to win that game overall tbh. Ottawa took way too many legit penalties early and then got a few questionable calls in the 2nd that bit them. That stick throw by Regin was hilarious. As for why tt was deemed a 'distinct kicking motion' on Aucoin's cheating, if you look carefully at the replay you will notice the right leg makes contact with the puck as he is stopping in the goal crease. The stopping motion was forward momentum and as a result the play was ruled a kick because the player was moving his leg forward in a kicking like motion with the inside of his foot with the intention of stopping. Thus the definition of distinct kicking motion was met and merited the goal being waved off.
I'm not here to argue, I like your team this year and think there's still a very good chance you make it to the dance, all you need is 1 more top defenceman and you'll have a really competitive team (how's Calvin deHaan doing so far, btw? Always liked that kid) but this is the type of BS every team deals with over a full season. We had OT stolen from us on a blown goalie interference call in Montreal and lost earlier this year, it happens to every team. You also seem to forget that 4/5ths of our 1st line is on the shelf, for example so it's not exactly like this was an 'even' matchup. It's called adversity, you deal with it or you die. As we're proving to the rest of the league (given how you were all claiming this would be an easy win in the posts this morning) we don't die so easy. We're the road runners of the NHL. MEEP MEEP!!!

LOLLLLLLLLLL you are truly an idiot. we don't take penalties because everyone on our team is soft.

It's comical at this point. We know watching the game that it's coming.

Ooooooo, this makes complete sense now, thanks for clearing that up
I'm afraid boys its all downhill from here unless Jesse jonseau takes the league by storm.
Cappy cutting Cizikas mins b/c Casey playing to well.
Aucoin horrific turnover lead to ott surge in first place.
Isles and cappy want to know why they can't close game out? Is that a serious question. How about you don't like the other team work your offensive zone for 90% of third period. You can start there.
Here is a few legit questions for cappy
1) why is amac logging the most mins on team if we have NHL worst GA.
2) why is Marty reasoner on the team?
3) why are you cutting Cizikas play time?
4). What more does hickey have to do to earn respect? He should have been given a shot on 2nd pp unit already?
5) why is Marty reasoner on this team?

That's probably the same reason you lost the game.
2 people have showed that the islanders have one of the highest pp/pk ratios in the nhl, but please, don't let things like facts get in the way of your crying about officials.
They need a new voice behind the bench. - canadianpenfan
They do, but this falls on the players as well. They clearly don't have the mental fortitude to play with a lead. They can't handle the pressure of playing an important game with a late lead. Where are these f**king "veterans" when the wheels start to come off the wagon? How about some if these "core" guys start playing with urgency and an attack philosophy when leading in the third? The coach can only do so much. This repeated failure to hold third period leads and to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory is as much on the mentally weak players as it is the overwhelmed head coach.

Yes 3 and 5 are same question - Spartiarti
!) Because he has a new contract.
2&5) Because he has a 2.5 million dollar contract
3) Because he has a rookie contract.
