I will say he was a techincally sound goaltender so he may be a decent coach. Sudsi was awful. I remember reading an article on his approach to coaching where it said he coached DP to 'stay down on the ice because he felt most goals were scored when a goaltender transitioned from the ice back to his stance'. I'm a bit of a purist since I preferred standup style and then hybrid after that so the idea of telling an undersized goaltender to never recover his stance was just bad advice (IMO).
I think to a point DP was probably uncoachable, but I don't think Sudsi was going to help much. It's a shame we couldn't get Vanbiesbrouk to coach him after his retirement. - keaner17
Maybe he's a good coach, but man, I remember he let in like 25 or so goals during five straight starts before they mercifully went with Dubi the rest of the way. |

the season is 48 games, most seasons are 82. A nice 8 game stretch is great, but there are also five game losing streaks in there. Past seasons have seen far longer losing streaks. I don't think you can call the Isles a "consistent" team. A consistent team doesn't go on double-digit losing streaks like this team has over the past few years. Again, at the end of this abbreviated season, if they get into the playoffs or just outside, it will show more consistency than years past, a positive development and evidence of improvement.

true...but i will not hold this years team accountable for previous teams performance.
and if we are going to compare this team to previous years then i sure as poop can call this team head and shoulders more consistent than those teams... |

So the Ducks Ink Corey Perry to 8 years @ $69 million. Between he and Getzlaf, thats $135 million on two players over 8 years. Roughly $17 million per year on the two of them. WOW. - keaner17
Funny thing is I thought the lockout was because the owners couldn't afford these crazy contracts
They are not worth 8+ a piece

Yet he was billed as an incredible goalie coach for years - Cptmjl
Yes...billed by this organization. The same one that told you AMac was an up and comer, Okposo was a future star and Boyes is a power forward. I've played/coached long enough to see terrible technical flaws in DP and then upon hearing some of Sudsi's advice, it made it apparent to me that the guy was another one of those people kept around because he was well liked, not effective.
I'm very glad he's gone at this point. |

Keeps the franchise alive and people in the seats. Also makes it easier to attract good players to the team. |

I really think there should be something built into the CBA that allows players who sign with the team that drafted them to be given a 10-20% discount against the cap. This would make it easier for teams to retain homegrown stars. Salaries like this will only make it more difficult on other teams trying to sign their stars. |

i think Perry is..Getzlaf no. THis probably means they will move hiller...with fasth there and Gibson on the way. Not sure how they can resign Ryan and Fowler though. Also have to assume Koivu and Selanne are close to retiring... should be interesting to see what they do but good for them keeping their players |

But if last season was considered a "failure" for not making the playoffs by Snows on words what would this year be called by not qualifying in a 48 game season? |

Signing star players? How absurd! People are more concerned about salaries on here than any other team thread I've visited. Very strange considering the isles have had nothing to worry about since the cap began? |

Setoguchi would work also...the Wild are close to the cap so I don't think they want to take in more salary....Setoguchi for Okposo is a wash...salary wieewise |

well, its been the same core for about four years now. A few new parts here and there, but the same core of guys over the past four years or so haven't been consistent at all. So if you're wondering why people are skeptical as to whether this team can be consistent enough to make the playoffs, its based on the track record of not only the 12-13 team, but correctly so on the track record of the core of the 12-13 team that has been together for a few years now and not gotten the job done. |

I'll take a defenseman instead. We have Nino. We need a large defenseman who can play....they have a couple, but I don't know if they're any good...
PS- the idea of WPG trading Kane is nonsense, unless someone in that organization has lost his g*dd*mn mind..... |

I'd hesitate to consider trading Nino until he's had another year or two and we have a better idea of what kind of player he'll be. Okposo's lack of balance, lack of physical play and lack of production for long stretches has been more than enough for me to give up on him. If he was just unlucky I'd hold onto him, but his skating has not improved, his balance is laughable as he goes down multiple times per shift and he's not showing improvement. I'm good to pass on him at this point.
Players can make great strides when they focus on improving different aspects of their game, and Kyle could be great if he'd work on his balance, but because he's shown a fondness for not bothering to do anything, I'm done with him.

I like KO & Bailey, I think both are great kids and have a world of talent.... With that said.. if we are going to move anyone to upgrade places that need upgrading (D & Goal) Then I hope these are the first 2 moved. They have had ample time to "get it" they havent & there has been no glimpses of them being able to put "IT" together & keep it together here. Lets hope they get moved & figure it out elsewhere.
