It's really quite sad, because last night's game I felt was really our best game against Tampa in a long time. WE NEED TO SHOOT THE (frank)ING PUCK MORE!
It drives me nuts how much this team loves trying to find the perfect on every shift. SHOOOOOOOOOT! - Flyers_V88
There were numerous breakdowns at both ends of the ice for both teams. To imply that either team take anything positive out of this other than a win is a reach.
At the end of the game, Timmo standing there with the puck in his skates after Bryz was pulled looked utterly ridiculous. |

I would prefer moving Coburn at some point for a puck mover. With Grossmann and Schenn, you can afford to deal Coburn, IMO. - NickTheKid87
Yup, and I haven't wanted to, but his play has just been brutal. I want the Coburn from the 2010 playoffs back... |

Very interested to see how it plays out from here.
This team is obviously cooked. They aren't going anywhere.
The question becomes "Where do they go from here?". Management will have 5 days to think about it.
If Laviolette makes it out of this 5 day stretch with his job, I suspect that Holmgren has somehow managed to convince Snider that this season was an aberration and to chalk this shortened season up to having the opportunity to develop young talent like the Schenns, Couturier, etc.

at least we lead the league in something - Philly1980

I guess "times shorthanded" stat is the most damning, as minors aren't a huge deal if they're matching. Still lead the league there too. Way too high compared to the middle of the league. Things just don't change. I guess that says something about discipline, but it also says that your team is also too out of position too often and is forced to take guys down. Not a lot of good things to find going through the stats, except PK%. |

I love when people get excited for a high draft pick. What't that you say? You enjoy losing? Oh and a Flyers fan using the nickname of a Penguins player is acceptable as well. Carry on. - The_Universe

No I know, but it was the first game in a while where Tampa didn't own us all game and we were at least able to generate something.
I thought the game was EASILY in reach and winnable. |

Tampa is not very good right now either. They were also missing Vinny Lecavalier. |

It's going to be an ugly 18 games remaining. They should just stop worrying about the playoffs and start evaluating talent for the future. Couts needs some time off IMO. He is just useless out there. Hartnell needs to be dropped to the 2nd or 3rd line and Schenn moved up. Start figuring out combos for next year. Whats the worst that could happen? A top 5 pick? - Jimmygrazz
evaluating what talent? |

I actually suspect that's EXACTLY what's happened. That this season can't be viewed as a true reflection of the talent on this team... |

The Flyers attempted 58 shots last night. 30 on goal, 13 missed the net and 15 were blocked. |

Ill be honest.. I want Couts OFF of the 4th line. We know he can play defensive hockey.. let the boys know that were calling it a year... We still want them to compete, but we will also be moving guys around the lineup to see what we have for the future. Let Couts play some offensive situations.. let him work with Read and Simmonds, or Hartnell...
I really hate saying this... but Ill be pissed if they really "try to turn the season around" |

Agree with the assessment on coaching. I think if they were going to move Laviolette out it'd have already happened. The Flyers generally don't see too afraid to do it midseason, and I think they'd have done it a few weeks ago when the season was still salvageable. Maybe Laviolette really needs a full training camp/preseason to get everyone on the same page, and he just didn't get that this year. There's enough returning players that you wouldn't think things would sink this badly if that were the case... but maybe it just is. |

imagine if the PK% was 7th worst and not 7th best. at least 8 more goals allowed that way.

There's nothing to turn around. That's it. It's over.
I can see a late season run when the pressure of having to make the playoffs is off and they play spoiler against some tired teams, but this team pretty much squandered this season already. |

Yea, their problem isn't throwing stuff at the net, it's generating the quality chances though sustained offensive zone pressure causing the other team to breakdown. (i.e. what other teams do to the Flyers). |

Laviolette looks like he ages faster than any President of the U.S. does. Mr. Snider should consider a mercy furlough. |

I love that Coburn and he might be back at some point but I think he could net a good, NHL-caliber puck mover. |

They may just decide to ride it out now and see what happens. I just hope they don't panic and try to make the playoffs with a bold move. |

All this proves is that its not the lack of shots, and suggests it could be the quality of the shots...
Dont get me wrong here, last night I thought over the first two periods they were the better team... yet they lost to a mostly AHL squad. I dont know what to say honestly. A whole lot needs to change. |

I think I've found a sort of/kind of happy note:
No worthwhile FA would want to come into the poopstorm that is currently this club. Luckily for them, the FA class this year looks terrible. So, if there's a season to stink, it's good that it's a 49-gamer, with no top-ranked FA. Draft/trade for good young defensemen/goalies and hope/pray that a few turn out. |
