Sir, I asked you four years ago whom you would hire as the Flyers' next coach and you predicted that "We need a general!" with as much vigor as you called out the low tide aroma at the Oregon Diner.
What sort of coach do you see as the next Flyers coach? - Flyskippy

Well, that, and the fact that the market for defensemen is just crazy.
You see Matt Carle do anything last night worth 5 mil?
Me neither. - johndewar
He does some thing very well, and yet looks awful at times.
The first minute of the game he coughed up a puck that led to Talbot having about a minute of alone time with their goalie (and not scoring).
Also when he was at the top of the umbrella on their PP you knew he wasn't' going to shoot, kept dumping the puck to the wing (with Stamkos and St Louis that is not a bad idea) but if Carle had a decent shot then the D can't just collapse on Stamkos. |

As much as I like Lavi and want to give him next season to prove this was just the culmination of so much misfortune on the Flyers, if we had to choose someone, I'm going off the board...

Not sure. Are there any college hockey coaches out there who run a gimmick style? |

Jon Cooper, Dallas Eakins and Steve Spott.
Cooper is the coach of the Norfolk Admirals, and the favorite to take over the Bolts if Boucher walks the plank. Eakins is coaching the Toronto Marlies and is highly regarded. Spott is the coach and GM of the Kitchener Rangers. He also runs the Canadian National junior team |

Lavi could obviously do better in rewarding better play and effort with more ice time.
It still doesn't help that their are 0 options on defense in the AHL and very few options for forwards. You could even argue that after Bryz they don't have a viable goalie option to go to. Even though Bryz has been OK.
No more trading away picks for aging vets/rentals. The lack of young guys in the system is an organizational problem, and not on Lavi. - Marc D
So you mean the Pronger trade and the pick for Kubina? |

It doesn't matter about the AHL, there's options on the roster.
The lack of disciplined play and inability to play solid two way hockey are on Laviolette. - Jsaquella
I thought we were talking about benching players who don't give effort and play undisciplined. Not having a viable option to replace said players of course matters. |

By which I mean, he'd be my pick.

How so? Maurice has shown time and time again he can win with minimal pieces, ASIDE from his Toronto experiment where I think any coach was doomed...
He's young, can relate to the players the way Lavi can, has shown a winning record for the most part, and adds some structure to our team. I'm sorry, but all this Murray and Paddock talk makes me sick to my stomach... There's a VERY GOOD reason Paddock never found work again at the NHL level, and why Murray didn't either. Same with Mike Keenan... Those are old-school coaches... The game, mentality, and coaching style has changed a lot in today's game. |

McGinn - hurt
Shelley - hurt
Knuble - healthy scratch
Harry Z - healthy scratch
Foster - healthy scratch
MAB - apparently dead
Mat Walker - Matt Walker
That os their NHL roster right now. Please tell me what changes Lavi should make to turn this thing around right now. |

They can insert Knuble, or increase the ice time of the players who are getting 7 or 8 minutes a night.
I'd rather see Couturier playing more minutes in a scoring line role and be allowed to play without worrying about making a mistake. I'd rather see Talbot or Rinaldo on the wing with Schenn & Simmonds. |

Starting to remind me of Stevens' handling of the Flyers, benching Upshall but still giving Calder lots of minutes, only without a cake, rearranging of chairs, and being considered a player-friendly coach.

For Murray, it's because he's only been out of an NHL spot for a year. He had a longer gap of unemployment after being fired in Florida. |

So you mean the Pronger trade and the pick for Kubina? - mayorofangrytown
I had very mixed feelings about the Pronger trade.
I mean, I can see why they woud do it, but I hated what they gave up for a guy Pronger's age. If he didn't get the concussion, his knees would have given out, or his back, or whatever. I hate trading for these guys even if they are Pronger when they are 35.
The Kubina deal was horrible. The Grossmann deal worked out.
Several years ago because their cap management sucked, they had to include 2nd round picks at least twice to dump off players to get cap space. Horrible management. |
