Actually not long at all... Less than one season. Again, it's not that I don't like Murray, I just think he isn't the right fit. As well, with this talk of interim, what's the point now? I mean really? Why not wait, if a coaching change is in order, and find the right guy from the start. - Flyers_V88
Plus I don't want them tightening down now and playing themselves into pick 13. |

Why wouldn't they just go hard after Bishop or Bernier in the summer as long-term solutions? UFA-to-be Mike Smith would fit their system perfectly as well -- almost plays the puck as well as Marty. - Tomahawk
Maybe they will. |

Erm, yes, some fundamentals of today's systems are rooted in what came before, but tactics, strategy and systems have evolved quite a bit since the 50's - 70's.
The game is much more complex these days, mainly due to European influence on notions of puck possession and increased fluidity in player positioning in all three zones. The days of north-south, stay-on-your-wing, dump and chase are pretty much over. Systems and tactics have had to evolve as a result. - Tomahawk
A 1-2-2 forecheck is the same as it's always been. Jacques Lemaire learned the 1-2-2 neutral zone trap from his playing days in the 50's in Montreal. Most of the concepts that today's NHL Coaches use have been around for decades. For instance, elements of the LW lock that Laviolette uses has been around forever, and came from European Hockey. What's evolved is the play within those systems. And how Coaches have mixed and matched elements of it. |

Not sure if trading for a defender is as important as trading for a forward or clearing our Cap right now.
If we can sign Sustr, we have solid D prospect group along with Mark Alt, Ghost, Gusty etc.
Hope we can trade some of our high priced no-trade guys... Timonen, Briere, Bryz. and restock with picks and then make a splash in free agency which seems to be a good one coming up.
I'd also like to see this team cut back on all of these PIMs. The Ducks used to be tops in PIMs and now they are much more disciplined and that def attributes to some of their recent success.

The point now is to start building for the future and getting this team heading in the right direction. And not wasting the 20 games that are left. Laviolette is not showing any signs that he is capable of doing that. And from your descriptions of Murray as a Coach, it doesn't seem as though you are clear on what kind of Coach he is to know if he's the right fit. And he would be for the interim, not for the long term. |

Well Coburn has got 1 goal 5 assists and -11 where as Yandle 5 goals 10 Assists and -1. Seems like an upgrade to me plus he is the kind of guy we need on PP and to move the puck better - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Coburn is given the top defensive assignments and sees no time on the PP, so comparing conventional stat lines isn't going to tell you the whole story. Yandle is the more rare commodity, but the marginal difference between the two does not amount to the value of a franchise prospect like Jones/MacKinnon/Drouin. |

The flyers killed it off but how about that too many men on the ice and the almost exact same issue a few shifts later last night?

sorry nothing in that list does anything for me. Trading and selling just to restock with less than or just as good as what you had doesn't appeal to me. Thats just me tho. |

I see quite a few that are feasible additions depending on how everything shakes out. IMO its a much better FA pool than last years |

He has had PP time and done nothing with it so he was removed from it. Coburn can barly hit the net on PP. |

Yeah, a horse cart and a Ferrari have some fundamentals in common, but the similarities kind of end there. |

It would be nice to get Elias. God knows he's killed us too many times to count.
I'd also like to bring Jagr back. But those won't be the moves to get us the Cup. Clarkson will be overpaid by someone (that could be Homer's cue).
Only player I'd really like them to get would be Scuderi. Not a very strong top-line class. |

Anyone else sick of basically leading the league in PIM's every year?
13- 487mins (30th)
11/12- 1318mins (30th)
10/11- 1119mins (24th)
09/10- 1350mins (29th)
08/09- 1408mins (29th)
07/08- 1457mins (28th)
I'm more in favor with a complete coaching overhaul (lavy, berube, jeff reese) than making huge changes besides the obvious (Briere, Gervais, Feds, Leighton and Boosh) |

I agree on clarkson and Jagr is just too old. Have to cut the umbilical cord sooner or later. Besides Jake has benefitted by being elevated in the lineup. I don't think scuderi hits free agency but wouldn't be shocked if he did. He's still not gonna put us over the top. This team really isn't that far off. Get a #1dman, a backup goalie and a coach that teaches disciplined two way hockey and lets rock. |
