we will be making a move for a d-man....it is gonna happen. question is, how do we get a top notch d-man that is available without parting with schenn and couter? does anyone think yandle is feasible?

do they have the money to resign read? but then again can they afford jblow?
- Philly1980

Yes for Read. Right now the Flyers would have to trade players with significant cap value to take on Bouwmeester.

If they're bought out than they obviously aren't that great. A name or two maybe but names don't make you any more talented.

I wish the teams would have the option to renegotiate the deal if they wanted. I don't know what the big deal is. I'm not a big fan of his but at half the money Briere wouldn't be so bad here or anywhere.

trade Hartnell for the D man (maybe not Yandle but someone in that role, not sure who)
re sign Read

we have enough young guys on this team .. both Iginla and Morrow are ageless.

Some other ageless players at the top of their game now.. Saku Koivu will be 39, Martin St Louis will be 38.. Pavel Datsyuk will be 35. Hossa 35. Marleau 34 ..The Sedins will be 33. .. .. etc etc etc

I don't know, he's been awful. Besides, I'd rather have Couturier get more ice time which is more viable with Briere gone.

i think it can be done with just one of those two + read and a good draft pick.

Would your interest change if Calgary ate some of the cap cost (is that how the new CBA thing works?) ?

I would inquire about players like David Rundblad and/or shop Coburn. I'd keep Hartnell unless the right deal presented itself. I don't think he nets a good dman alone.

Ageless? Iginla maybe but Morrow is pretty much a role player now.

Edit: Those others players have zero to do with Iginla and Morrow.

I just read a Matt Read to Calgary rumour, plus extras and involving j-Bo. I'm a big Matt Read fan but i would be interested in a deal such as this.
- Flyer4Life29

would you be so kind as to provide a link or cite the source plz, it is in the COC.

Bouwmesster's cap hit becomes affordable in the offseason once Briere is gone, and it's only for 13-14. Then they could sign him to a long term deal at a lower annual cap hit.

But I would hate to lose Read.

It would. Bouwmeester at 4.5M would interest me. But not at 6.8.

There will be compliance buy-out period, too, so there may be some name players in the UFA pool when all is said and done (I'm looking at you, Briere).
- Tomahawk

Is Ehroff a candidate? I know they paid him 10 mil last year. I guess theyll keep him the cap hit is reasonable

we have enough young guys that need top line minutes. Where are we putting Iginla and morrow? 4th line? I hear what you're saying and don't totally dismiss this as a bad idea but I'd rather pass on them.

They could, but it would have to be a significant amount. And I'm sure that would increase the cost.
