Could be the difference being a few points lower and being next to Florida in the standings
- eayost

still would put them 10 behind FLA in the goals allowed standings, but would move them from 28th to 29th.
Man, I didn't realize they had allowed so many. Now, that will change this week since most of the teams around them have 1-2 games in hand. But still...

All this proves is that its not the lack of shots, and suggests it could be the quality of the shots...

Dont get me wrong here, last night I thought over the first two periods they were the better team... yet they lost to a mostly AHL squad. I dont know what to say honestly. A whole lot needs to change.

- jak521

Yeah, more specifically, quality shots. I still find there are way too many chances for decent to good shots that are passed on.

They got killed by breakdowns. The first goal was a complete collapse of every player on the ice. bad turnover by Couturier, incredibly bad defense and Bryz was beaten for a weak goal.

The second goal, Schenn doesn't finish a check and Meszaros blew coverage in front. Right there's your ball game. Two breakdowns and you lose

Laviolette looks like he ages faster than any President of the U.S. does. Mr. Snider should consider a mercy furlough.
- TJ

They extended Laviolette back in August until 2015 (link: http://msn.foxsports.com/...contract-extension-080112

That's probably playing a role in keeping him.

They may just decide to ride it out now and see what happens. I just hope they don't panic and try to make the playoffs with a bold move.
- Jsaquella

Call me optimistic, but I feel like if Snider were going to try and 'save the season', a trade would've happened by now.

Very interested to see how it plays out from here.

This team is obviously cooked. They aren't going anywhere.

The question becomes "Where do they go from here?". Management will have 5 days to think about it.

If Laviolette makes it out of this 5 day stretch with his job, I suspect that Holmgren has somehow managed to convince Snider that this season was an aberration and to chalk this shortened season up to having the opportunity to develop young talent like the Schenns, Couturier, etc.

- johndewar

We may agree that they're "cooked", but I highly doubt management and the coaches are going to treat it that way yet. And I'd prefer them not to.

I completely agree..

I am truly open to moving 48, 26, 12, 5, 27, and 27.

Let McGinn come back up. Let Harry Z play. At least those guys bring a tab bit of enthusiasm.

- jak521

really dislike Gervais that much?

Its time to go to Danny and ask him to waive his NMC and ask for a list of teams. and if he isn't moved, there is compliance buyout #1. I've appreciated Briere greatly and he has provided a lot of really great play at times, esp in the playoffs, but they simply cannot carry his cap hit moving forward. Its a shame you can't ask players to re-do deals ala the NFL.

I would have to think Fedotenko would be of interest to a contender who needs a solid PK guy. same with Gagne also there is part of me that wouldn't mind seeing him back. maybe I am just being sentimental

I think Lavy will still be coaching to win now but come the end of march I'd have to think it will be over so I would hope at that point they do allow guys like Harry Z, McGinn and even wellwood play and just let Couturier get major minutes.

At least we can end the Corey Perry talk. BTW, that $8.625M cap hit could look real ugly in a few years if he starts to physically break down in his early 30s the way many power forwards do.

I actually tend to agree. The organization is clearly aware of the math involved and probability of making the playoffs this year with the amount of games left, and it would seem that they also see this and maybe realize a trade wouldn't do anything to rectify this season.

Other teams have to be willing to trade. Right now there is only 2 or 3 teams that are really out of it. Even the Flyers aren't actually "dead". After this week they will actually have games in hand on other teams.

But they're toast. They don't have the discipline to save the season now.

Couldnt agree more. You can see them pressing, you can see them trying.. but it just seems like every single time they have a break down it ends up in the back of the net. Actually.... were lucky that every break down doesnt end up in the back of the net, because they have been happening at an unbelievable rate.

I wonder if there is a stat for odd-man rushes against for the season... I would assume we are near the top of that list.

If they take the "this was just an aberration" approach, I'm not saying they aren't going to make ANY changes in the offseason. That's a different beast.

I'm more referring to in-season trades, coaching changes, etc.

With the way the flyers are able to draft, trade or sign those types of players, I was not really excited about the prospect of getting him. This team has other positional needs to invest in.

They won't panic. They know the cut off number is 53 points. Getting 26 points from 18 games is a pretty steep curve for this team (13-5-0).

I'm just saying, I want the coaching staff to still be trying to get this team into the playoffs, as hopeless of a feat as that may be.
