I would be trading Coburn this deadline, along with the other chronically inconsistent veterans this team has sorrounding its young core.
Regarding moves that fill this team out for next season, as I have said all season long, I would make them in the summer or the draft.
Rundblad is just a name definately. - flyer_nutter
My concern is that when your strategy is 'wait to fill the role in the summer' for the blueline, there's a chance you'll you strike out, sign Bruno Gervais and Kurtis Foster, and have a poop season. To me, I prefer the security of knowing what Coburn is, to trading him for whatever, and hoping something can happen in the summer.

I don't trade a player just to trade one. I would trade a player to make the team better. So I'd only trade him if I felt it accomplished that. If you trade him for a draft pick or prospects. You've created a big hole to fill. - MJL
When you have a young core that you want to lead you to promise land. They need to learn to play the right way.
Guys like Coburn are exactly the kind of players I want out. I've stated in my other posts why. You are right that it is a big hole, but in reality its not. Considering you have no idea how he will play a given night. Its time to move on, from players like Coburn imo.

I get the risk. It is risky to a degree, but you are not looking to replace Coburn with a #1 d-man. You are using Meszaros essentially, and spending money to solidify a 3rd pairing much like OD did. This defensive core needs depth.
On the other hand, and the bigger issue to me, is that you need to sorround this young core with the right players. That bring far more consistency, and far less stupidity. Exactly what Lappy, Jagr and Pronger helped to do. The Flyers will not replace those players, but they need to build the team, and prune the tree to fit the kind of attitude those players brought.

He is just one guy, I am using as an example. - flyer_nutter
The trouble is, you're just tossing out names to replace him. Nobody knows what Rundblad would do, he's never been in the NHL for a full season, so you'd have to expect ups and downs. Murray, by several accounts, is fading badly and has become inconsistent himself because a lack of speed.
It's like when I say fire Laviolette. I wouldn't do it unless I had specific names in mind to take his place.

Yeah Monahan is another kid I like a great deal. Bottom line, top 10, you're getting a great pick - Jsaquella
You also have some like Jason Richardinson (site changes his name), Ryan Hartman, Bo Horvat, Kerby Rychel, & Zach Fucale whom are right now bottom 3rd of the 1st round projected.

Coburn is not that imo. Time to move on imo. - flyer_nutter
I just can't make a trade simply to 'move on', it just screams 'squandered value'. My sticking point here is really that, if you're not trading Coburn for a younger replacement, you better have a free agent signing or a second trade lined up and ready to fire.
As for Meszaros, I'm not against keeping him around and transferring some of Coburn's responsibility on him. Keeping him does not, however, instill enough confidence to risk not adding a replacement top 4 defensemen.
I don't think having Coburn around will poison the development of this core. He has his faults, and he's struggling, but I wouldn't say he has cancerous attributes (laziness, bad attitude, apathy, etc.). I'd be more inclined to keep him on to be an overqualified third pairing defenseman (like Andrej Meszaros in his first season) than trade him for pennies on the dollar to bring in toast.

Yeah, I know you like Rychel. I was looking over some of the videos that Cordell posted of MacKinnon, I'd be ecstatic to get him, too...that kids has some sick hands.
