Laviolette looks like he ages faster than any President of the U.S. does. Mr. Snider should consider a mercy furlough. - TJ
Have you heard the flap about that miniseries on the History Channel about the Bible? The Devil apparently resembles an aged Obama. Lots of people upset about it.
On an unrelated note, anyone remember when Game of Thrones had George W. Bush's head on a pike because no one realized that one of the mannequin heads they were using was a mannequin head of GWB? |

They extended Laviolette back in August until 2015 (link: http://msn.foxsports.com/...contract-extension-080112
That's probably playing a role in keeping him. - johndewar
When I heard Hartnell's reply in the post game interview about being demoted most of the third period it caught my attention. "If that's the way it's going to be, then that's how it is going to be", was not a players endorsement for a coach, trying to win. |

I'm not sure how the Kings can be correct. Didn't both Richards and Carter have some form of NTC in their contracts? |

I'm just saying, I want the coaching staff to still be trying to get this team into the playoffs, as hopeless of a feat as that may be. - bradleyc4
I have no doubt that the coaching staff believes in what they are doing and will work hard.
It's a question of whether or not this group of players believes in what the coaching staff is telling them.

I think you're looking for something that's not there. Two weeks ago Hartnell said that Laviolette shouldn't be fired, and that the onus was on the players. Last night Hartnell took a stupid penalty that could have cost the Flyers the game before it was over. He deserved to be benched, and I think he understood it. When he finally got some ice time in the third, he looked a lot better.
Laviolette and Hartnell, based from what I've seen, seem to have a good working relationship. Laviolette knew what buttons to press with Hartsy during the Cup run.

I think they are too generous with those clauses - JoeRussomanno
They actually don't have that many. Briere, Timonen and Bryz have NMCs. Hartnell has a NTC. Fedotenko, Coburn and Grossmann have modified NTC, which probably means they won't go to Edmonton.
Most of the guys I'd be looking to move with a clause would probably waive it to go elsewhere.
I've said it before, but I'd be shopping Briere, Gagne and Fedotenko like a madman. I'd be listening to offers for Hartnell, Talbot, Meszaros and Coburn.
I'd tell Briere that he can talk to interested teams and see what accommodations they would make(i.e. agreeing to buy out the last two years of his deal or a promise to honor the NMC after the trade). I'd tell Gagne I'd be interested in re-signing him in the summer.
Load up on a few picks and see what happens in the summer. |

Hartnell has decided to go back to his knucklehead form. Taking stupid, selfish penalties, being all over the place... except where he should be.. and not producing a lick offensively... |

I think the bidding on Ryan will be way too expensive for the Flyers.
They need a #1 Dman and a top Dman will cost more than Ryan. Better to focus your assets towards what you really need. |

They were traded before they kicked in... and a team cannot be forced to take on a NMC if I remember correctly. |

Also, call me insane....
But Rinaldo didn't seem too out of place on a line with Giroux and Voracek. Of course, those two could make a scarecrow look like an all-star. It would have been crazy if that line scored--as they almost did twice. |

At least we can end the Corey Perry talk. BTW, that $8.625M cap hit could look real ugly in a few years if he starts to physically break down in his early 30s the way many power forwards do. - bmeltzer
It seems to me that GMs don't worry about "down the road" when they give out the monster contracts. I'm fairly certain the Flyers don't. The goal is to make it work in the short term. |

The EXACT same thing crossed my mind... To me, that's the first potential sign of any disconnect I've heard explicitly. However, knowing Hartsy and his drive to win and help the team, I'm sure it was just frustration at the loss and his poor-timed penalty. |

They won't panic. They know the cut off number is 53 points. Getting 26 points from 18 games is a pretty steep curve for this team (13-5-0). - spatso
I've seen this team panic too many times in the past not to think they won't in the present. |

Whether or not Hartnell thinks he responded well after the benching, those shifts that he did take after the benching were probably his most robust shifts of the year. |

PK is good, PP is good. 5v5 is what's terrible and holding things back. I wonder how often a team is in the top 7 on both special teams but bottom 5 in even strength play (5v5 goals for/goals against). Florida and Buffalo are in the bottom 10 in all 3 of those categories. Makes sense they're bad. Flyers are just weird |

Luke Schenn also has a modified NTC only eligible in 2015-16 although his contract was sign with the Leafs.

I disagree.. Easily his best game, and shifts, of the year were his first game back from the foot injury. Parked his ass in front of the net and went to work... since then.. IDK. |

I think he was probably upset and emotional about it. He's been demoted before and it lit a fire for him. Perhaps this will have a similar effect. He should have been stapled to the bench last night, because he played stupid all night. |
