I just keep re-watching that MacKinnon video and have visions of him and Simmonds next season

I can but try not to because I don't think they'll have that bad of a finish to be in a spot to land any of the top 3.

The trouble is, you're just tossing out names to replace him. Nobody knows what Rundblad would do, he's never been in the NHL for a full season, so you'd have to expect ups and downs. Murray, by several accounts, is fading badly and has become inconsistent himself because a lack of speed.

It's like when I say fire Laviolette. I wouldn't do it unless I had specific names in mind to take his place.

There are risks with everything at the end of the day.

Murray is just a name. Giordano would be another. Streit could also help replace minutes. Scuderi are other names. Robidas could be on via trade. Again though, these are guys that help solidify the defense as a whole, not be a replacement for Coburn. That would fall to a lesser degree on Meszaros.

I am not saying to throw away Coburn now, however if they get a good return I send him out. Either way, I look really hard at replacing him one way or another in the summer.

They aren't getting in the playoffs. That would take a miracle and I don't see that in this team. I think they finish badly. These last couple weeks took it completely out of them.

That's fine, but look at the style each plays. Giordano would be nice, because he's a mobile puck mover, who can QB a PP. Douglas Murray is in the midst of a dreadful season and he's another stay at home type. They already have Grossmann & Schenn to fill that need.

Im thinking they finish 7th behind Florida, Buffalo, Colorado, Calgary, Washington, Columbus and Tampa in that order.

I'm with you. Have to see what you can get for him. Could land you a monster deal at the deadline with teams fighting to get a top 4 defenseman. Look what Kubina brought back last year (hes not very good at his age).

I've seen some Shark games this season. I think if you throw Murray on that 3rd pairing to help give it some real depth, and help shield a younger guy he will do his job well, much like OD did.

Murray in the larger picture is simply a name amongst others that would get the Flyers to move on from Coburn. Its just a personal thing, but his inconsistent play, especially from a veteran and a guy making decent money who is expected to play big minutes... Has me ready to move on. In the larger picture I want to sorround whatever the young core of this team ends up being, with the right kind of players. The right attitude, and identity.

If they get the 7th pick which one of these guys do you think they get?
Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Monahan, or Ristolainen?

At #7 likely for me Sean Monahan, Darnell Nurse, or Nikita Zadorov

I'm OK with moving him, too. But I want a plan in place. I don't want to see him traded and then pay somebody worse $4mm per year

I think you have Jones, Drouin, MacKinnon, Nichuskin and Barkov go top 5.

After that I have no clue.

I would like to get back a younger defenseman whos ready to play on the 3rd pairing (to start his career off) who is on the cusp of the NHL. Add that with a pick and I think the Flyers would be moving in the right direction.

Make a move in the offseason to upgrade if needed. Add a vet for cheaper on a one year deal.

Understandable.

Im more in a mindset of trying to find a replacement instead of simply waiting to see if there is a better one.

You dont want Hainsey for 5 years at 4.5 million?

38 games over a couple of seasons, one goal and minus 17. The solution?
