Quantify the return and specify what you can get through free agency. That is the whole point. Instead of just making general statements. Such as we could get a big return. Well we could get a big return for a lot of players on the team. - MJL
We cant do that, and you know it. Thats all part of the game isn't it. The love of this BS debate all the time.
I can have a normal conversation without knowing every angle, or every name, or every number. None of us are Holmgren, we do not have links to support our arguments. Or reputable sources. |

I'm looking at the full picture. What is the return, and how do you replace him. All part of the scenario. - MJL
I explained that already in previous post.
They could get a younger defenseman and pick(s). Could add two cheaper players for third pairing. |

This guy is a (frank)ing bum in the minors too. Good thing he got that second year. - PLindbergh31
he was signed w/in the 1st 5 mins of the FA period by holmgren. it is obvious that the professional hockey people w/ the flyers felt he could be an asset. he is helping our AHL team at this time and every player has bad games....
right now he is helping to instruct scratched dmen how to pick splinters out of their ass. |

If lava is back next year they can't come back with the trio of grossman, schenn, and coburn can they? - Just5
What about using that star studded three headed trio of Lilja, Walker, and Gervais.
Absolute monsters. |

All the people who predicted L. Schenn would be the scapegoat if this season went awry appear to be incorrect. I don't see anyone bashing Schenn ever. - PLindbergh31
I came in with a pretty low opinion of L schenn. He has been better than I thought. He's horrible for lavas system buy I can't blame him |
|

|
Agreed. I however don't see a team parting with a 1st for Coburn right now. I'm sure Edmonton might like him, but no way are they giving up the 1st to do so. It would have to be a draft day move for me, where there is a guy on the board you are ready to commit to. This is the Flyers tho so I highly doubt that would happen. - hereticpride
if no first, i'd want a pretty highly regarded prospect or two. otherwise, it's not worth dealing him, imo |

He hasn't been perfect, but he's been very solid. He's stayed under control and displayed a level of mobility and an ability to make an outlet pass that were very much downplayed by a lot of folks.
He's been pretty much a solid player for the Flyers thus far. |

Yep. He's been good. He makes an occasional mistake, but he's exceeded my expectations. |

Okay them why are you trying to do the GM's job by suggesting they trade Coburn. Isn't it the GM's job also to decide who to trade? - MJL
Then why have a board to discuss things? |

Coburn's not a guy I'd move for a couple of seconds, either.
I'd be open to moving him in a deal for a guy like Yandle, as part of a package. |

Its easy to defend everything. Its harder to be creative and look outside the box. |

Honestly, what the hell are we DEBATING here?
Some of us are for looking hard at improvements, and Coburn being the one that is sent out.
You want to keep Coburn? Or is it the fact that you believe a more balanced D-core wouldnt make this team stronger? Big piture. - flyer_nutter
I want to do what's best for the team. The suggestion you have made are not better for the team in my opinion.
Suggesting Murray and Raffi Torres, another player who is cooked. Is just playing Fantasy Hockey.
I would be willing to trade any player if it makes the team better. Regardless of his struggles this year, I know that Coburn is a good player. And I'm not willing to trade him just to trade him. |

And suggesting that the Flyers better have a plan to replace Coburn if they trade him. Especially for picks and or prospects. Is part of the conversation. Or at least it should be. And looking at every angle from an informed perspective is part of that conversation.

I'm not knocking Coburn b/c he has talent and many people stated what he brings to the table. To me he is the best trading chip and the Flyers could get a very good return if they decided to move him.

You made the statement of what the GM's job is. I would think that in discussing trading a player, how you would replace him and with who, would be a relevant part of that conversation.

PHX no doubt. Yandle had 15 points, 5 goals and 10 assists on a team that has trouble scoring. How much more, I have no idea. |
