Combo of Corvo and ference would do fine - Just5
Corvo is awful at this point of his career. I'd love to add Ference for the third pair. |

How does that not?
Timonen-Schenn
Mez-Grossmann
two vets/possibly one younger dman in trade
Also add the pick/prospect added in the Coburn deal.
The team may not be better the next day but it has the chance to be better in the future. - stveshdy
After next season, I wouldn't be surprised if the only current dman who is still on the team is L. Schenn. It's an ill conceived mix as presently constructed. Too many similar type players. Meszaros cannot be counted on, guy is made of glass, Timonen is gone after next season if not sooner. Grossmann could be traded, same with Coburn. |

Now that's unfair. I also submitted skepticism to the method presented (that is, simply 'moving on' from Coburn). As I see it, nobody was simply praising Flyers players, nor refusing to trade them. - BulliesPhan87

I agree you haven't. But, correct me if I'm wrong. But you've said repeatedly that you think you can get a very good return for Coburn. And that seems like the main reason why you want to trade him. I personally don't feel that you trade him for that reason. - MJL
I trade him b/c I feel I can help add players who can help the team in the future. I dont believe they are close to winning a cup. At some point this team needs to get young defenseman in their system. If the right deal is offered now is the time while he has the best value. |

Really? You told me that they basically been swept by Boston and NJ the last two years and this year they are in the bottom ten.
This team is far away IMO. - stveshdy
I blame that more on coaching than the assembled talent. This coach has issues with teams that forecheck well and stay disciplined on defense and their assignments. Even teams that are awful
Like Florida, who has basically beaten the Flyers twice now by copying what the Devils do. |

Theres two options. I make "fantasy" up and just name two vets and a young defenseman or I allow the GM to do his job and find out what he can get.
When he traded Richards and Carter I couldnt name the exact players at that moment. |

How does a last place team ever replace an inconsistent, up and down, defenseman who lacks offense, and is prone to bad penalties. Would be very difficult. - PLindbergh31
If that is Coburn, then how can they expect to get a good return for him in a trade that I keep reading about?

In making a coburn deal. It's important to note the landscape of the NHL. There will be many teams that still believe their in the race at the deadline. With some small market teams maybe willing to overpay (Columbus, NYI). Now you have the possibility of getting a 1st from a team that maybe just misses out on the playoffs. Now you have 2 LOTTERY picks.
The argument that you need to have a rock solid plan to replace coburn next year in April, is a weak one IMO |

I never said he would fetch a great return. He's regressing as he is in his prime years. |

I'm not asking you to predict the future. Just to think about all the ramifications and possibilities in trading Coburn. Again, isn't letting the GM do his job also include who to trade?

Columbus doesn't give up their 1st and nor will the Islanders. But I see your point. |

Maybe they are correct. I don't know what Coburn's value is. GM's seem to overpay for dmen, perhaps he would net a first round pick. |

What issue, Coburn? How is he really damn predictable when you say we can't know what he'll give you any given game?
But f'real, I really don't care what "many posters" (half of which were alternate accounts) say. Except Butsy, he's p cool. I don't understand being all upset about 'debating' on one hand, then on the other implying anybody wants us to all 'praise all the flyers and something about Lavi's goldfish'. I'm getting mixed signals, do you or do you not want debate? |

I'm only suggesting trading Coburn if the deal is right. I would love to add some defenseman to the farm system and possibly a young prospect on the cusp of playing in the NHL. I probably wont be better tomorrow but I'm looking down the road when I actually believe they will have a chance to win a cup. |

I'd trade any player in the right deal. But it has to be the right deal. This team also has to think about the immediate future.

Coburn has one goal and is a -11 and leads the universe in minor penalties. So put that in your pipe and smoke it! |

Theres no guarantee this team will be any worse than this year if they trade Coburn and get back a cheaper third pairing along with a prospect and picks. |
