He still averages about 20 a night. He has 5 goals. He's a +8 - Just5
Valid point. I hadn't thought he was playing that well, but yeah, the numbers are very solid across the board for him |

In making a coburn deal. It's important to note the landscape of the NHL. There will be many teams that still believe their in the race at the deadline. With some small market teams maybe willing to overpay (Columbus, NYI). Now you have the possibility of getting a 1st from a team that maybe just misses out on the playoffs. Now you have 2 LOTTERY picks.
The argument that you need to have a rock solid plan to replace coburn next year in April, is a weak one IMO - Just5
The chances of getting a lottery pick for Coburn is remote. And based on the amount of time that this board has spent criticizing the GM, for his failures in the off season in putting a defense together, and his lack of a plan B. Stating that having a rock solid plan in place to replace a top defenseman is a weak argument, is a curious statement. |

Coburn has one goal and is a -11 and leads the universe in minor penalties. So put that in your pipe and smoke it! - PLindbergh31

Theres no guarantee this team will be any worse than this year if they trade Coburn and get back a cheaper third pairing along with a prospect and picks. - stveshdy
You mean they can be worse than this? Unpossible. |

I have blocked that season from my memory. In my world there was a lockout that year. |

That would largely depend on who constitutes that cheaper 3rd pair.

Coburn is a capable guy, he's just too inconsistent for my liking. As Bill once said, he's either great, or awful. There is no middle ground with him. And lately there has been a lot more awful, than great. |

Depends on what the Flyers would add. I would look at adding more mobile defenseman. |

I'm not asking you to predict the future. Just to think about all the ramifications and possibilities in trading Coburn. Again, isn't letting the GM do his job also include who to trade? - MJL
I would love to see the flyers package Coburn and a pick/s or Coburn and a prospect for a younger, more offensive type of a defenseman. Some players that come to mind: Yandle (PHX), Shattenkirk (STL), Kulikov (FLA), Sbisa/ Fowler (ANA), Josi (NSH), Weber (MTL) and Petry (EDM). As a matter of fact, I think I could go down every team's roster and find a young, puck moving d-man that I would consider moving Coburn for. This is assuming we have Kimmo, Schenn, Grossman and Mez next season. |

This board is also a board full of lunatics with varying opinions therefore categorizing them as a whole is as pointless as a rumor site with bogus rumors.

He will still get a good return because teams overpay and every team thinks there one player away. |

He's playing terrible. He is still our 2nd best defenseman. (Mez close when healthy) He will bring in a haul. |

Could change the landscape of the team. How about for once we sell a good player and get a great return? |

I'm trying to think of a team that is good that could use an upgrade on the blueline. Thing is the good teams have 4 dmen all better than Coburn, he makes a lot of coin for someone to put on their third pairing. |

That pick would likely have to be a first. And you know that if you want a team's top young defenseman, they're going to be asking for B Schenn or Couturier in return.
