Mason with the sub .900 save % on a top 10 defensive team. How is that possible? The numbers don't compute.

They give up a lot of shots, but the do work hard to limit the second chances and they avoid breakdowns

I'm curious to how much the defense has improved since Bobrovsky has hit this hot streak.

That's less than they could have gotten had they just refused to match the offer sheet-and it comes after spending $26mm on him.
- Jsaquella

I disagree. They turned down 2 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd. All of which were expected to be late round picks. The offer I put out was a lottery pick, another 2013 1st rd pick, another 1st rd pick in 2014 and more. Way better offer IMO.

I'm just horsing around. They get rid of Howson, and all of a sudden they are playing some solid hockey. Good for them. I have no ill will towards them. Their fans have suffered a long time. I do wish they were staying in the West.

The offer sheet amount would have required the Flyers to surrender 4 1st rounders.

They gave up 39 shots in their last game.

They work hard and limit second chances, and Bob's been playing out of his skull

Everyone keeps saying that, but every document I look at says otherwise. Can you send me a link pre-new cba that spells it out, it would be appreciated. The tables I see are over $8.4 million AAV for 4 1sts.

Ottawa down 3-1 after two periods, 4 unanswered in the third, 5-3 win. That team has balls the size of church bells.

Article 10.4

10.4 Draft Choice Compensation for Restricted Free Agents
Any Club that is entitled to but does not exercise its Right of First Refusal
pursuant to Section 10.3 shall be entitled to obtain Draft Choice Compensation from the New Club. The number and quality of draft choices due to the Prior Club shall be based on the average annual value of the compensation contained in the Principal Terms (as defined in Section 10.3(e) hereof) of the New Club's Offer Sheet (determined by dividing such compensation by the lesser of the number of years of the Offer Sheet or five), based on the following scale:
GROUP 2 COMPENSATION CHART
OFFER SHEET COMPENSATION

$660,000 or below None
Over $660,000 to $1 million Third Round
Over $1 million to $2.0 million Second Round
Over $2.0 million to $3.0 million First Round and Third Round
Over $3.0 million to $4.0 million First Round, Second Round, and Third
Round
Over $4.0 million to $5.0 million Two First Rounds, Second Round, and
Third Round
Over $5 million Four First Rounds

The dollar amounts set forth in the scale outlined above shall be increased on an annual basis at the same percentage rate of increase as Average League Salary, with the 2006/07 League Year being the first year such increase shall take effect. By way of example, if the Average League Salary on June 30, 2007 has increased by 10% from the Average League Salary on June 30, 2006, then each of the dollar amounts stated in the table above shall be increased by 10% on June 30, 2007, and the basis for determining the number and quality of draft choices due to the Prior Club for the loss of a Restricted Free Agent signed after such date shall be adjusted accordingly. For each League Year thereafter, a
similar comparison and adjustment shall be made. Clubs must use their own draft picks (being those awarded directly to the Club by the League for use by it in the Entry Draft, including such draft picks described in the first clause of this parenthetical that a Club has traded or encumbered, and subsequently reacquired or unencumbered.)

Which ones don't you think would require more then just Coburn?
- MJL

I stated that some of these players would not require Coburn AND A 1ST ROUND PICK. In particular; Sbisa, Weber, Petri, Josi and Kulikov.

Unreal that team is. No doubt they get my support if they make it to the dance. I have utmost respect for a coach and a group of players that lose the Norris trophy D-man, stud 1st line center, and many other vital pieces (number one goalie in Anderson, 1st pairing guy in Cowen) but still play balls to the wall and get points in close games. With half the on-paper skill level.

That doesn't take into consideration of the increase in the annual AAV and that document is old. I'm starting to believe the picks I set forth.

They will get Spezza back, and Anderson. With Karlsson that is a team that contend for big things. Lehner and Bishop have really played outstanding hockey with Anderson injured.

Had to figure that would happen. I'm hoping Toronto, and Winnipeg make the playoffs joining Montreal and Ottawa. East Conf. with 4 Canadian teams in would be pretty wild.

Sorry to disappoint you. Tolkien is a wussy
- Jsaquella

Actually Tolkien was just inconsistent with his application of action and abilities but ill tell you who is a wussy, this stinking Martin guy with this game of thrones. I'm really torn between watching or boycotting this upcoming season. I hear and read people talk out their asses constantly I don't need an epic fantasy series on HBO to experience this. Okay sorry you evoked my peculiar fascination of these things.

The AAV is under the threshold for 4 first rounders, but there's a separate clause

http://blogs.edmontonjour...with-philadelphia-flyers/

As for that compensation, while at first blush it appears that Weber’s annual cap hit is below the ~$8.4 MM that triggers the maximum compensation of four first-rounders, because of the length of the term it is subject to the following clause:

“If the prior club declines its Right to First Refusal, it will be entitled to draft pick compensation based on the annual annual value of the new deal. This is determined by dividing total compensation by the less of the number of years of the offer sheet, or five“

Thus for purposes of compensation, Weber’s calculation is simply $100+ MM / 5 = $20+ MM = maximum comp. The tail in the contract will help Philly’s books for salary cap purposes, but it will not provide a further advantage of lowering the compensation[/I]

I forgot the 5 year clause that applied to longer contracts
