What did you think of Bryz in our last game against New Jersey?
- BulliesPhan87

Best game of the year...then lets in an awful, easily stoppable shot against Tampa for their first goal. Just like the rest of the team...way too inconsistent.

you dont think nashville unloads:

Weber for a package containing Jones/Mackinon + read +

- Philly1980

I don't. I think they are committed to Weber as their franchise player for many, many years to come. Had Suter stayed in Nashville, I think Weber may have been available for a blockbuster return. Once Preds matched Flyers offer sheet on Weber, they made clear he's staying put at all costs.

Or how about him keeping the Flyers in the TB game. He made a number of huge saves...
- jak521

Despite looking horrible while doing it, Lindback made more and avoided the soft goal. Bryz looked the part better but let in the soft goal while facing fewer shots.

Both team's defenses were horrible and both teams hit posts. Bryz had another potential goal go through him only to trickle wide.

The difference in the game was the soft goal allowed.

Funny how quickly that tone changes when we have G, Briere, Read or any other forward going in on a one on one and not cashing in.

"A forward NEEDS to score on one on ones"

- jak521

There's been how many of those chances this year for forwards? Hardly any at all. Statistics show that goalies have a decided advantage in shootouts, penalty shots and breakaways...well except Flyer goalies.

Did you notice any other games where he didn't make the saves?
- strongsupporter

Absolutely.. but I can honestly say that over about 9 out of 10 games.. he is faced with about 6-8 chances where he is left out to dry... some of those will get by him.

Why replace the floor if the ceiling is still leaking?

How does the Tampa goal relate? You said he never bails out his team, I'm saying he absolutely did in a recent game, and one against a team they sorely needed to beat (for pride's sake). His consistency (or lack thereof) is another thing.

Again.. as you increase the amount of odd man rushes, break aways and the like.. the likelihood of your goalie allowing a goal will go up.

Bryz is the least of the Flyers worries right now.

Well that is a terrible list...Briere is the only one I would buyout, others are good players that you don't want to buy out and risk losing
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Vancouver can't afford to keep Luongo as a backup making $5.3m against the cap till 2022.

Chicago can wait till summer 2014 to decide on Hossa, but they know the summer after that Kane and Toews will both be free agents that are due huge raises.

Kept them in it? Not sure I'd go that far. Made most of the saves he should have, except that first Tampa goal which he should have stopped. The Flyers hit three posts...those go in and it is a win. Any time you keep Stamkos/St. Louis as quiet as they did, you should win the game.

It's not even that, if you're playing a more disciplined style of play, with better defense, Bryzglov doesn't have to be overworked and ridden into the ground and face all those glorious chances against.

You also have to look at the possible replacements, which are either not as good or who will be more expensive.

So I guess thats not a save?

Come on.. The Flyers made it entirely too easy for Lindback.. the number of shots faced is bull poop. Your goalie could face 9 shots in a game... and let up 5 goals.. while the other guy face 50 shots... automatically the other guy was better? Nope, because little did you know by looking at shot totals that the 9 shots your goalie faced were all 2 on 1 slams dunks, while the other guy faced 50 perimeter shots.

If you read my post, I said he isn't bailing out the team. I didn't say he never does. I also stated the one on one chances are almost sure goals against him, which is not the statistical norm.

Trying to understand why everyone is trying to dump Rusty....he has done EXACTLY what he was brought in to do.
- Pyzik

I'd move him if they are sellers because he is a UFA and could fetch a later draft pick to a team that needs a solid veteran PK for a cup run.

I really think that was an emotional decision rather than fiscal decision. If the owners didn't have deep pockets to eat the massive losses the Weber contract would've bankrupted them. Assuming they don't make the playoffs this year, which is looking likely, I bet they are 20+ mill in the hole after paying Weber another $13 mill this offseason. This is in addition to the 60+ million (I think) that the owners put into the Preds the last 6 years.

You may not buy a sports franchise for ROI but you certainly don't want to be hemmorraging money every year.

They can afford Weber but can't afford a few decent forwards.

Bryz deserves another year here and to play in front of a solid defense, but if they don't change the coach that won't happen.

Because he has some value. They're not making the playoffs and he's a UFA. Trading him for a pick or prospect gets them something for the future, and they can try to re-sign him in the summer.

I'd do the same with Gagne. Trade him, tell him that you're very interested in re-signing him in the summer, but this way he gets a chance for another Stanley Cup.

If you can re-sign either, it's not crippling.

The team defense is their biggest issue right now and will be unless they start drafting/developing dmen or trade a promising forward for one or two, that won't change.

Those two combined for 7 shots and 3 points... Bryz had to make about 5 or 6 non routine saves... all because of terrible defensive breakdowns.

I say move Talbot back to Pittsburgh for Derrick Pouliot. I know he's been one of our best players but word is the Pens REALLY want him back and while I hate the idea of giving Pittsburgh anything they might want... I would love to Liberate a future big scoring defensemen from them, and we need that more than we need to hurt our State Rivals. Obviously I would not trade Max for just anyone or want to get rid of him, he's been one of our best players. But for the right price I'd trade almost anyone.

at this point him and talbot are a luxury that could net us picks.

I'm also not 100% against a buyout, assuming he can be replaced with something more than a stopgap.

I could easily see them buying out Bryz, signing Ray Emery and trading for a Ben Bishop type and go with a platoon like the Hawks have with Emery and Crawford.

I could also see them throwing significant assets at a team with a good young goalie and adding a veteran back up after buying out Bryz.

Me, I'd rather wait and see. There's no rush on buying him out, right now and waiting also means the payout period is two fewer seasons.

Box score shows, one point for each. Evidently you're counting the empty netter from Stamkos which if I'm not mistaken, was assisted by St. Louis. That is still shutting them down/keeping them quiet.
