Mesz isn't really the same kind of dman as the other 3. He is mobile and has a big shot. He's not a stay at home guy. He's more of a two way dman. The other 3 are stay at home. Coburn doesn't really have much offensive potential also. - NickTheKid87
The Flyers have 3 defenseman that basically play the same game. Schenn, Grossmann and Coburn are all stay at home guys (obviously each has their own strengths and weaknesses) so moving one for a puck-mover doesn't seem like a terrible idea. I'd prefer to move Coburn because I feel like he could get the best return. - NickTheKid87
Grossman and Schenn aren't strict stay at home guys imo...they each have decent mobilty at their size and can make a good first pass. Should they be pressing into the attack and pinching as much as they are? Probably not, but Schenn's shot isn't bad and he has 25-30 pt potential imo. Coburn is more of an enigma. He cans skate and has been put into more of an offensive role (more pp time etc) in the past and showed potential upside there, which I think is partly why some people are unhappy with his development...does anyone remember those wicked one-timers from the right circle he'd unleash a few years back on the pp?
Anyway, I think the Flyers mix on D does need some change. I don't think the need is so much for a puck moving D man, per se...some of them, like say a Matt Carle (if at a more reasonable salary), wouldn't be the solution here as he rarely skates the puck up the ice on his own and favors a short pass from deep in his own zone. The current Flyers D can do that just fine. Unfortunately, with the gap between the d and forwards and the incompetence of the forwards in gaining the zone cleanly, the Flyers struggle in transition.
The higher end skill is in someone who can "carry the mail" in transition from the d zone to the o zone (think Karlsson). That's more of a rare find than someone who is mobile and can make a good first pass. Timonen is the only guy here who can do this fairly well but he's only on the ice for 1/3 of the game. Joni Pitkanen really excells in this area and can be dynamic in the offensive zone...him or a guy like him would probably be good complement to the current team (nose picking and short stick notwithstanding). Incidentally, his teammate Corvo is pretty good and could be signed cheap but he's over the hill and with the Flyers luck, he would come here and break down. I still like the idea of Byfuglien as a Flyer...he brings a lot of what they need from the back end imo. |

Yeah, I'd trade for Jagr if the price is Gervais and Foster - Jsaquella
Seems kind of low. I'd throw in a 1st. |

Homer doesn't own enough 2nd round picks to throw into a "take Gervias or Foster off my hands" deal |

beleive it or not but rusty has a ntc.
if we were in a playoff spot i would bring jagr back in a heartbeat, might be exactly what the team and g needs.
wonder if hartsey would waive to go to la with his pals for one of there goalies?
gagne will not be traded, knuble has no value, we got him off a ahl team.
coburn, mezzy, briere, talbot and kimmo will have some value |

Exactly. The last thing they need to do is trade picks or kids for vets...now if they can cook up a Briere for Gonchar deal... |

Trading Talbot is a horrible idea (unless it's a no-brainer, like Crosby or something). |

I've used a few names, the only one that was not a variation of my actual name was scoopyten, which is a combo of the nickname I was given at age 18 and my favorite number. - Jsaquella

def Jsaq, which is why I often truncate your name here to that when I have multi-reply posts to you...but I was actually thinking of...well, me. I would often post "Thoughts" use "-"s to mark each paragraph and of course my trademarked, "..." |

Yep. Let's put it this way, if you're ever at a Friendly's restaurant and a little drunk, don't ask for a bib.

I haven't been there in years.
But I have used the same style myself, when there's a lot of different comments I want to cover
I do agree with the Pitkanen suggestion, BTW...he'd look good here. |

Glad you cleared that up. Thanks. |

I thought he was finished, too, but he's played well for Carolina. I think when Just5 posted his name last night I confused him with Tom Poti. |

I did have a dog, but she had zero to do with the nickname. People from that team still call me Scoopy. |

Looking at his stats, the performance looks pretty decent but the teams don't try to retain him (except Carolina).

No idea, he just seems to be one of those guys that teams add and don't build around, like a finishing touch. |
