So what's the feeling on Komisarek? |
|
|
|
Yes, if you're going to assemble 7 franchise defensemen it would be better.
But here, in the real world, you can't do something like that except on Xbox.
Otherwise, why don't the Flyers just trade Rusty Fedotenko for Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews? - Jsaquella

So if this current team's defense was made up of a healthy Chris Pronger, Shea Weber, Zdeno Chara, Duncan Keith, Chris Letang, and Brent Seabrook, they would be performing at a level similar to that of players like Kurtis Foster and Bruno Gervais and would in no way improve the team's defensive capabilities? - jmatchett
Very nicely taken to the ridiculous extreme. Well done. |

My original point that you replied to didn't say anything about what needs to be done to become a contender. And had zero to do with being a contender. It simply stated that they don't need to make any player changes to become better defensively. - MJL
The point is replied to was "The Flyers have the defenseman to be a much better defensive team then they are. " Which is fine. My point was that, with better defensemen, the team (all things being equal) would improve their defensive play, to a degree. I would hope they would do so and upgrade their defense as well as stress better team defense and therefore become a contender, not just "be better."
And yes, for the second time, I realize I was taking things to an extreme to make a point. Got it. |

Well obviously we'd already have Duncan Keith and magical healing powers to make Pronger all better. - Jsaquella
Depends on how much we sacrifice to Odin. |

Yes, I'm being extreme. My point is that, all things being equal, better defensemen will lead to better defense. Maybe not as drastic as would be required to salvage this team's season, but better to a degree. - jmatchett
Yes, but without gutting things up front, a simple adjustment to the strategy employed and style of play, with more emphasis on team defense can give them a similar result to adding one really good defensemen and NOT making any adjustments.

He won't have to get a new apartment, since the Marlies play in the same city as the Leafs |

yeah, just one more year though. He'd certainly be better than a couple of the guys here.
edit: for the record I don't think it matters.

Which I understand. My only point is that I would prefer they do that, but DO add a better group of defensemen (somehow, won't get into that right now) which would make the result an even more dramatic increase in overall team play.
My point was, "if the Flyers had better defensemen, then they'd be better defensively. " I'm just saying, keeping all things equal with the team philosophy and forwards, that an upgrade at several defensive positions would make them better defensively. I understand that (unless you magically get the NHL All Star blueline) won't make them change, it would be beneficial. |

Yeah, Gervais and Foster. Timonen, Coburn, Schenn, Meszaros and Grossmann are all better. He's a slow, stay at home guy, fills no holes. |

They're not likely going to be able to make drastic changes on defense. I'm sure that Holmgren's been beating the bushes for defense help, and thus far hasn't found an upgrade at a desirable price. |

I seem to remember him being able to move the puck a bit? I admit it's been a while since I've seen him play. |

He is a rich man's Matt Walker.
He provides the same things as Grossmann and Schenn, and probably at a lesser degree of quality of play. Why would Philly want him, especially at 4.5 mil per? |

He's awful. He looked like a good, physical stay at home guy that could play 20-25 a night with the Habs, and then he really never took the next step. He's been an abject disaster for the Leafs |

gotcha. I thought I remembered him being able to skate and move the puck a bit. Guess I'm misremembering once again.

His game took a drastic drop when Lucic broke him in the playoffs a few years ago. |
