Personally, if they have a chance to get Jones, Zadorov, Ristolainen or Nurse I would hope they take one, give Bettman a slap on the ass and run away happy.
Quality d-men, especially young guys, have to be overpaid for these days. I would be really damn happy with Zadorov, Ristolainen or Nurse. - flyer_nutter
They all do see like promising young d-men but that doesn't mean they will be a top 10 selection.
If they Flyers say are 9 or 10 yeah go for it. |

Outside of Seth Jones, there may not be a D who goes in the top 10 this year. So there is definitely a very good chance the "best available player" when the Flyers pick will be a forward. I'd be fine with it, too. - bmeltzer
There's a few mocks that see Jones going first, then a string of six or seven forwards, then Nurse, Zadorov and Pulock in some way shape or form rounding out the top ten.
It seems like Jones, Nurse and Zadorov will be top ten picks. But Shinkaruk, Erne, Mantha, Wennberg or even Domi could sneak in. |

There are many I like but I agree outside Jones I'm not 100% sure right now at least that I'd pull the trigger inside the top 10. - ob18
With the lottery, you never know. I'd have a rough time with the top pick, as I like all three at the top of the class. It'd be hard to pass up Monahan, even for a guy like Zadorov(who I love) or Nurse |

To a degree if the Flyers are in a position to draft either Drouin, MacK, or Barkov then definately I would take one of those guys.
For all of the solid forwards in the draft, I think there will be some damn good d-men as well. I'd prefer the Flyers to get one. |

It really would it for me will depend on how far they are inside the top 10 should they finish that low.
If it's 5 through 7 I'd say it may not be likely to see them select a d-man |

No they are too slow and frankly not good enough for lavys system - nonpoint22
Regardless of what system or style a team plays, you need a mix of defenseman. Every team needs stay at home physical defenseman such as Grossmann and Schenn. Coburn has good wheels, and Meszaros has to get healthy. Watching him play lately, it's clear to me that he is not 100%

I don't disagree but a lot of it depends on what spot they pick, how their board looks, & if they feel the risk work it at that spot. |

I know Zadorov is more of a defensive d-man than a guy like Nurse but honestly I would almost have exploding testicles if the Flyers got him.
The kid has amazing size, leadership, offensive potential and scouts and coaches rave about his attitude. |

Even Nichushkin, if they're at 4 and Jones, Drouin and MacKinnon are gone, would be hard to pass up. Big kid, lot's of skill, ISS has him second. |

I have a thing against Russian forwards in general.
Maybe a slovak thing? |

Agreed. At that range, there's forwards that just rate higher than Nurse or Zadorov. Maybe a trade down to 9 or 10, and adding an extra pick or two in the second or third round would be an option. You still get an outstanding prospect, and add more picks overall. |

I've said for over a year how much I like Monahan so if they are at 7 and he's there I'd be pretty happy if he was selected.
Just looked through the photos I took of the 67's game I was at last year. |

If they go that route, I don't have a lot of faith in the Flyers' ability to correctly project the best available defenseman nor in their willingness to nurture him through his pro learning curve even if they do select one who proves to be a legit top-pairing player in the NHL down the line.
If they select a D-man, I hope they leave him with his junior team AT LEAST one additional season -- and preferably two -- no matter how "NHL ready" his tools may seem. When he does turn pro, bring along slowly in his responsibilities, letting him grow and mature at his own pace.

Mainly because of the different places (sources), I've seen rave about the kids attitude. Reminds me a lot of Bobrovsky in that regard.
The fact that he is already in North America is a plus. Reminds me a lot of a rich man's Volchenkov, or a Chara hybrid. |

I agree with Bill's comments with the Flyers about D-men, I want one but I won't be upset if they don't select one in round 1. |

I'd have a hard time passing him up, too...everything you read about the kid is glowing.
Then you have Barkov, who's putting up great numbers as a boy among men. If both of them are gone at 7(and the Flyers are sitting there) I'd take Zadorov or Nurse...nothing against Lindholm, just doesn't seem to have the ceiling the other two do, although he's no slouch at 7. |

If they're at 8 and Monahan, Barkov and Lindholm are all gone, I'd have zero issue going with Zadorov, Nurse, Pulock or Ristolainen there. The only of the other forwards projected top 15 that would make me reconsider right now is Erne, because of his size speed package. |
