Also, if he's a Flyer, he will certainly have Pronger to help mentor him. - Jsaquella
That brings up an interesting point. Can a player (injured or not) also be a coach or assistant coach?
I would think not, since there would be cap issues (is his salary for a player and coach, or just a player, or separate contracts, etc.). But if so, as long as he gets back to being able to deal with normal day-to-day activities, it would be nice to have him as an assistant coach or advisor of some kind for any of our young defensemen. |

A lot depends on the lottery. I could see a team like Columbus or Washington taking Nate MacKinnon. I could see Florida grabbing Drouin.
I posted last night, if they are at 7, and Lindholm and Shinkaruk are the only "top ten" forwards left, I think they go with Nurse. - Jsaquella
the Panthers are going to be so good, they had 40 shots on Ellis and totally dominated Carolina |

Agreed. Only way I'd trade a top-3 pick this year would be to move up to #1 (Jones) or for an established top-pair defensman such as Pietrangelo, Letang, etc. (more would have to be included). - jmatchett
I wouldn't trade a top 3 pick, and having one wouldn't be enough for Pietrangelo. Jones is a probable Franchise defenseman, Pietrangelo is already one, and is only 4 years older than Jones would be. |

if this is the case, I don't know how the Flyers could pass him up if he was available when they were selecting. - PLindbergh31
he won't be, unfortunately. unless they win the lottery |

Yeah, I'm in the same boat - Jsaquella

Ian Laperriere was named to an official position as a roving instructor before he retired, so there's nothing stopping the Flyers from naming Pronger as some sort of advisor or instructor role.
There's also nothing against naming a player as an assistant coach. |

Well yes, more would have to be included. I was just saying, he's one of the few guys I'd consider moving it in a deal for. As much as I'd love the Flyers to draft Seth Jones, there's always a possibility he just doesn't pan out in the pros, while Pietrangelo is a pretty proven commodity. |

So, if he's an assistant coach, would he have to sign 2 different contracts? Since coach' salaries don't count against the cap, I can't imagine his coach pay would be included in his player contract. |

Well as of right now they would be picking 6th. They play the Pens and Rangers coming off their break, then have the Islanders, Bruins and Caps to finish the month.
Could very easily lose 3 or 4 in those 5, which are their last games before the TDL. They have owned the Isles of late, but the Caps games tend to be close in score. Their record against the Pens, notwithstanding, that's a team that's been rolling lately. I won't even get into their play vs the Rangers and Bruins. |

Nope. Just name him a "playing" assistant. They did the same with Bob Clarke back in the day. |

Kind if off topic, but if he's healthy, would you play Shelley the last game of the season (assuming the season is essentially over by then)? As much crap as he got, he's a pretty good guy from what I've read, and it's not likely he ever plays another NHL game. So if the season is shot anyway, would you at least let him play the last game? Same with Knuble. |

He'd cost an arm and a leg, plus he's due for a new deal and I doubt his AAV starts with a number lower than $7mm |

I'd have no trouble with that, letting guys get in a final hurrah. It'd have to be a meaningless game, which it likely would be. |

8 of the remaining 18 games are against the Pens, Rags, B's, Habs, and Devils. The playoffs are a pipe dream, I think it actually makes sense to hope they lose as many games possible. |

Right, but Clarke didn't play int he salary cap era. Then again, I guess you could just factor that in as part of his responsibility as a player...but would suck if he was ever relieved of his coaching duties on a multi-year deal. |

absolutely...if they wind up with one of those 3 it will be a pretty big deal. even if not, they'll probably get a damn good young player
watching some highlights makes me really want drouin |

I'd still like to win at least 1 game against both the Pens and Rags. But yeah, otherwise: |

Well, he's not retiring and the contract's guaranteed as long as he doesn't. |
