Why would those 2 players only bring back an aging veteran? You obviously don't trade either player for an aging veteran. The possibility does eixist however, to trade for a young player of another positon. Such as a young defenseman.

I'm sorry in what world do you think the Flyers would trade Schenn and Couturier for a Young D-man with ups and downs. Obviously they wouldn't bring in a young d-man through trade because they don't have the patience for it.

He's not saying that the Flyers will or will not do something, he's saying that Schenn and Couturier could easily fetch more than an aging defenseman with a big cap hit.

I think the possibility exists that they would deal either player in the right deal.

I'll say, look at this stat line...

Season Team Lge GP A PIM Min GA EN SO GAA W L T Svs Pct
2012-13 Skelleftea HC SEL 30 0 4 1726 48 0 5 1.67 21 9 0 652 0.931

The save % and GAA are the two stats that jump out! 1.67 and 0.931.

Not that I disagree, but keep in mind one thing. Voracek is just now coming into his own and having a breakout year, in what, his 5th NHL Season? Schenn and Couturier are in their 2nd Season. And Schenn didn't play a full Season of NHL games last year.
- MJL

Very true but the thing about Jake for me is he was a 7th overall pick , in his 5th season and is only 23.

I would love to keep all 3 of them I just personally rank in order of who they should move first

1. Couturier
2. Schenn
3. Voracek.

of course it means something. They could have signed this guy but now they lost his rights because they chose to sign Niko Hovinen. And look at where Hovinen now he's gone and in the AHL playing for the Edmonton Oilers ahl team.

FACT: Bill is right.

FACT: The Flyers are not winning the cup this season. So any panic moves they make will hurt them long term by giving up growing youth in exchange for an in vain push this year.

FACT: This organization, for once in it's life, needs to stick to a plan, and make appropriate changes in the off-season, that will not negatively affect the young nucleus of this offense.

FACT: "Based on message board, Twitter and radio show fodder, it is crystal clear that a big segment of the Flyers fan base doesn't get the concept that: " - Most people on message boards and social networking sites don't understand much at all about building and growing a team, and are pissed when the GM doesn't land every all-star for a steal. I get so sick of hearing the Flyers being thrown in every time a player is rumored to be "available" for trade. Time to wake up to reality.

Very good post. Not only is it a fact that we are not contenders or even possibly a go two or three rounds team, it's almost impossible for them to make the playoffs. By the time we play next, vs the Penguins (another probable loss) this will be even more clear. They will be 8-10 pts out of 8th and in 14th spot. Forget it. If they had a chance to make the playoffs in the 6-8 spots, I would be ok with trading maybe a mid round pick for short term D help, or dumping salaries like Briere's. Not as it stands.. Sell sell sell. Gagne, try to unload Briere if he wants to (if not, buyout time), none of the D should be untouchable either at the right price (maybe exclude Timo and Schenn) Coburn, Mesz, Grossmann, all can go at the right price.

Couturier was taken 8th and is 20, Schenn was taken 5th and is 21. It's not really fair to compare Voracek to Schenn and Couts because they are at different points in their development.

Number of games played is more important. Schenn was the 5th overall pick. Couturier was the 8th overall pick. And will be about the same age as Voracek in his 5th NHL Season.

Couturier without a doubt should be at the bottom of the list. I'd move Schenn and Voracek before moving Couturier.

It all depends on the teams and such.

Also, not every guy that gets traded is rumored to be on the block. See Mike Richards.

the only player that might be on the market in the offseason that i would be curious about acquiring is Jaroslav Halak. The Blues have Elliott and their future in Jake Allen. So i could see Halak being on the market.

I just see Voracek as being a more dynamic(skating, passing, scoring) offensive player then couturier. Ideally i want to see them both of the course of a full season next year.

I suspect some combo of Read, Couturier, Schenn and Voracek though will be moved to address some of our more pressing needs.

I certainly wouldn't move Voracek for Bowmeester..

You don't decimate your team because your not going to make the playoffs. You can't trade pretty much your entire D core because of one bad Season. I'd be looking to trade Briere, and that's pretty much it. Maybe Fedetenko, but you're not going to get a lot for him.

It's a real gamble with Springfield cops, in my experience. The awful experiences stand out more clearly in memory. Funny (i.e. tedious) story from a couple months back, a couple friends and I had just seen a movie and decided to get coffee at Wawa. So we're standing in the parking lot, shooting the breeze and drinking said coffee, when one of Springfield's finest rolled up, and gave us the "it's after dark, time to leave," routine, literally treated us like teenagers. He had the smug, self-satisfied demeanor of a hall monitor who finally caught somebody without their hall pass.

The punchline: There were literally teenagers sitting in the corner of the same municipal lot drinking. He never noticed them. Springfield's finest, indeed.

He is a more dynamic offensive player then Couturier is. And will likely always be. But Couturier has a chance to be the better overall player. There is two sides of the puck. The value of a player such as Bergeron, Staal, that can play two ways is immense. Much more valuable then a scoring Winger. Truth is that I don't want to trade any of them.

It would have to be a very good deal to trade Coburn in my opinion.
