I'll just say this, the rumored deal I heard about with Montreal has a couple of highly valued Hawks going the other way, but what it brings back, IMO, makes the Hawks very, very formidable. A lot of posters here would have an aneurysm, while not appreciating the holes that get filled with the return and the relative expendability of the "star" and "future star" that go the other way.
A team that is worried about the cap or winning Cups 5 years down the line is not focused on winning one today—broad, but generally true.
I will feel much better about this team's playoff fortunes when it is more like the 2010 team—in character and style—than the 2012 team. That is not unachievable between now and 4/3. Bowman knows there are holes, and I give him/the FO/Scotty—whoever is really calling the personnel shots—credit for seeing it.
Remains to be seen if they can pull something off. - John Jaeckel
Hello JJ
Yesterday, in this proposed deal, you said that all the players were under 25 coming back from Montreal. Is this what you are still hearing? |

If the 2 teams, Montreal and Chicago are continuing talks as has been reported and Scotty Bowman has been heavily scouting then something must be brewing
JJ from Yesterday
Two rostered Chicago players, 3 rostered Montreal players. All under 25 except one of the Chicago guys. Have not heard anything about AHL players but would not rule that out either.
This has been an ongoing conversation since the summer and might go in to next summer but the contract status of one of the players might force something before the TDL.
- John Jaeckel
Now or in the offseason, this deal makes sense for both teams. Remember who Leddy's agent is! A Dman like Leddy with his speed is tough to give up but if you can not sign him you have to make a deal like this!
My guess:
Bolland(26) and Leddy for Eller(2nd line center), Weber and Tinordi( 6'6 D man) size on the back end
Tinordi Analysis from Hockey's Future
Tinordi possesses multiple talents that cannot be learned, such as an NHL pedigree and gargantuan stature. When at his best, he makes a habit of overpowering his opponents. He thrives when protecting the area around his net and in the corners. Tinordi skates well for his size, brings grit and toughness in the mold of a defensive defenseman, as well as leadership capability. - Greek7
Doesn't Weber have a knee injury?

Montreal would make that deal in a NY second.

I would, In a New York second,if I were running the Hawks and I knew I could not sign Leddy. You also shed Bolland's contract.

You missed an important element: since Leddy is a RFA, you COULD sign him even with an offer sheet but may not WANT to at the price. I guess of course Leddy COULD try to pull an O'Reilly and sit out and force the hand. Seemed to work out OK for Ryan O'Reilly. |

No need for a mediator...
I don't make a deal whereby I give up the most proven player and the player with the most upside.
If and it is big if the Hawks want to deal Leddy there will be about 20 teams lined up and they will get a very good return this summer.
I have a feeling Bowman realizes his potential and will sign him, if not he will have his choice of a big return.
I pointed out here awhile ago the only leverage Leddy has is an offer sheet....Bowman know exactly how that works now.

....And it worked out fine for Colorado too as they got O'Reilly with half the risk....He wanted a 4 or 5 year deal and he got two.

I know:
Just keep in mimd....When you have an asset just about everyone needs and wants you normally don't make a trade at the deadline when many teams don't have cap flexibility.

>Totally agree with your thinking on this
>Al, JJ -- are you guys hearing anything on how far away Sharp is to returning?
>Know he is skating
>Having both Sharp & Hossa with shoulder injuries makes them 1 hit away from being hurt again -- and makes SBow's job of what to do a bit more difficult -- unless both return at 100%
>No real second line = no Cup, unless the F/O has a strong plan "B"

The more I think about it, the more I see Keith as the contract that will hurt this team going forward. Before you all say I am crazy, I see it this way - Leddy needs to be signed at a fair price (it is obvious his offense is much better than Keith's). The minutes Keith plays can be picked up by a servicable Dman. Will they be the same quality minutes, most likely not - but this team is good enough to overcome that. Keith's contract is really bad when you think he is a guy who eats up that much PP time and has next to no success on the PP. That money has to be distributed better.
Keith for Eller, Subban, and Tinordi. Then sign Leddy and Subban the next day. |

He doesn't have to be great as in a HOF player...
But Leddy is on his way to being one of the better offensive dmen in the NHL....He will have no trouble playing 25 minutes a night as soon as he becomes a man and those types don't come around very often.

I have not heard anything to suggest Sharp has hit any snags.
So that means another 10 days to two weeks??

Keith contract is actually pretty good, and will only get better as time goes on (and the cap goes up).
Sure, Leddy has been impressive, but that's been on the 3rd pairing only. It's still unknown how Leddy could handle 22+ minutes per game on a regular basis, he's only averaging 16:30 now. I have no issue giving Leddy more of Keith's PP time, but we can't afford to deal Keith (nor do I want to). |

Leddy was overworked the previous two years and many games was in the 20's.
But now he is slotted better and there is no doubt he should be on the 1st PP unit. Stalberg set a great screen last night but Leddy's shot could not have been better placed.
His prime could be another 6-7 years away but last season Leddy finished in the top 20 scoring dmen and hardly had any power play time.
When your judging ability and projecting potential age is a big component.
This isn't meant for you....But many times people compare players here of different ages and it is NOT accurate to do so.
I dont know how good Leddy will be but for his age he is very good...

I want to be very competitive now AND the future. I hope it doesn't involve giving up too much youth for old grinders that will only help this year. A guy like Moen, for example. That is why I hope it involves Eller so it can help us now and in the future, too |
