His game in general has dropped pretty significantly over the past 3 season in regards to offensive production. This year he is pretty anemic offensively but we cannot overlook it because his defense (believe it or not) has been that much worse. -13 and leads the league in minors. - jak521
Cheating, something out of the ordinary, like a 48 game season when the norm is 82?
This is such an odd debate to me. - wolfhounds
So wait...you're comparing deliberately league-mandated breaking rules to gain a competitive advantage to a change in number of games that is applied to everyone across the board and saying they're the same?

He's been absolutely brutal. No other way to put it. +/- and the penalties might just be a trend based on a small sample, but the offensive production dropping like a rock is alarming for sure.

The Flyers have benefitted in their history from other organizations doing this.
In other words, it happens to everyone.
Did you enjoy John LeClair and Eric Desjardins? Because I bet Montreal would re-do that deal.
When Ville Leino was enjoying success with the Flyers.....Detroit practically gave him to the Flyers.
More recently....even as much of a whipping boy as he is now, Atlanta/Winnipeg pretty much gave up on Coburn. I'm guessing, before this year, they'd like that trade back. - johndewar

Just watching him this season... he misreads just about every play.. total scatter brain. And after he gets beat he ends up grabbing or hooking or whatever and taking a mentalty
I thought if you buried a guy in minors his cap hit still stays with you since the new CBa ??? - SMS4016
Only money above $900K.
So if the guy makes that or less, there's zero cap implications or penalties if he's sent to the minors, except for over 35 guys.
Even with over 35 guys there's conditions. The Flyers save $100K on Lilja by having him in the AHL. Also, it's only on the second or later year of an over 35 contract that the deal counts if a guy is on the cap or not.

No.
This isn't a matter of equality or parity but of the "norm".
If you read up on the 1995 NHL season, is there likely to be a mention of the lockout?
That's the note, the "asterisk".
People equating "asterisk" with "less of an accomplishment" are off base and viewing "asterisk" as defined by baseball as opposed to "a reference to a footnote".
