It has, but it doesn't make him worthless. Just means that he's a support player. He might be a bit expensive for a support player, but that's the breaks - Jsaquella
solid 20 minute a night d-men don't come cheap. i have no problem with his contract
an extra first in this draft would be pretty damn tempting, though |

No.
This isn't a matter of equality or parity but of the "norm".
If you read up on the 1995 NHL season, is there likely to be a mention of the lockout?
That's the note, the "asterisk".
People equating "asterisk" with "less of an accomplishment" are off base and viewing "asterisk" as defined by baseball as opposed to "a reference to a footnote". - wolfhounds
Well, I guess my whole reason is why does it matter? To me, it doesn't make the season any harder or easier. It's still a legitimate Stanley Cup victory as defined by the victor of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. You wouldn't get Kulikov or Leddy for Coburn. Maybe before they both really established themselves - Jsaquella
Obviously it would have to be in some sort of a package deal... But adding a mobile offensively gifted D-man who is reliable in his own zone should be a focal point. I dont think we need to go out and get a Weber or Pietrangelo. |

So, what about years with Olympic participation? Should there be an asterisk those years, too? They're out of the ordinary. Gives teams without a lot of participants a break and a chance to heal up.

Perhaps you should use a different term, rather than expecting everybody to disregard the established connotation of the asterisk. That little cross symbol works pretty well, doesn't quite roll off the tongue (keyboard?) like 'asterisk, though. |

I don't either. I'd be comfortable with Bouwmeester or Yandle, so long as the cost isn't too high. |

That's why I am open to a trade, but not pushing for one.
When it comes down to it, I'd prefer to trade Meszaros.

Nope. Especially not if they miss the playoffs. But if they squeak in, and get blown out, he's toast - Jsaquella
i guess if he's gone, Terry Murray is gonna be the head coach...not sure what i think of that...
i would be more in favour to get Lindy Ruff |

Agreed. My only point way back when was it's my personal preference for the Flyers to break this decades long Stanley Cup drought during a normal 82 game season. Would I take it this season? Yes, absolutely. Would it make the playoffs any easier? No, not really. Would it lessen the accomplishment? No. Would there be a footnote because of the lockout and shortened season? Yes.
Still, it's an interesting debate. I thought my comment was rather innocuous. |
