Be sure not to give them descriptive titles. Nothing creates the delicious dramatic tension quite like being greeted by that '031312.avi '

its usually the ones who love to dish it out that have to block you too. I've only ever unfriended one person so far and it was cause he pulled that crap with me cause I logically destroyed all his bible blanketed bigotry. No that's not saying if you read the bible you're a bigot either just don't be one and hide behind it that's all. sorry don't want to start an off topic war just wanted to state what I'm about. |

Agreed. They can't afford to move these guys unless they have an upgrade lined up already. The departure of Mez or The Nose, while neither is playing stellar hockey this season (or simply just being banged up in Mez's case) would leave a huge chasm of a hole on D. Really they have one hole to fill on D. The ever revolving Gus/Foster/Gervais spot. But basically the tricky part is that they have to fill a spot currently filled by a #6 guy with a #1 guy. On paper a defense of....
#1 guy - Schenn
Timmo - The Nose
Mez - Grossmann
....well that looks pretty (frank)ing decent. Schenn and Grossmann are somewhat interchangeable there. Then Gus fills the #7 spot duty slot as needed.
Land the #1 guy, get Lavi (if he is still behind the bench) to tweak his system according to the personnel...or replace him with someone who will, Bring in a solid muck/grind/face off/PK center, and as much as I hate to say it, trade or buyout Briere. If Holmer can accomplish all that (getting the #1 guy will be the hardest) in the offseason, next season should see a big improvement over this season. He may have to bite the bullet and deal from the forward core to get the #1 D-man, but that is the only way he should be moving anyone out. If someone has to go, hopefully Holmer can talk someone into taking Read, and some combination of picks and prospects. I would be loathe to move Schenn or Coots. G is still quite untouchable. Would Read, the 2013 1st (assuming it is going to be a higher pick, and Gus bring in a true #1 D-man? Seems like a lot to give up, but Holmer may have to get creative. - Lexington Flyer
If possible I would like to see what Homer could get for Mez and possibly Briere...St.Louis was rumored to be interested in Briere as they need scoring big time and maybe Danny B can produce in the playoffs. Shattenkirk would be nice for the two of them...They have a lot of cap space plus they will be loosing Macdonald at the end of the season.. Then I would use that money to sign Clarkson in the offseason and go after that #1 Dman via trade.....couturier , pick, Gus......Don't know what it would take to get Weber... Or how long he has to stay with the Preds, but we need a #1 Dman badley!

The Blues aren't going to trade Shattenkirk for Briere and Meszaros. And it's not likely that Nashville will trade Weber.

I can't see Nashville trading Weber anytime soon after giving him $27 million in one calendar year. |

Well I don't know who is going to trade who...... But you know Homer must get a # 1 Dman from somewhere because we cannot go into another season without.... |

There's a definite need. But #1 defenseman are hard to come by. But teams aren't going to give you their top players for your castaways.

You're heart is in the right place but I think you're reasoning is in the clouds a bit. Defensemen of Shattenkirk's value are going to command waaay more than a player in the twilight of his career and a guy like Meszaros who is not a number one with some serious injury history in the past year. |

Just one little problem. The cap hit of your 2-7 is around 22.5 million. add a number one to that and your looking at a total for just your D of 29-30 million!
You do know that next year's cap is only 64.3, right?? |

If we trade for a #1 defenseman, the cost will be painful. I'm not saying I wouldn't make such a trade, but it'll definitely hurt to see what's going the other way. |

If a team is willing to trade a top defenseman to the Flyers. It's pretty easy to guess who is going to be on the list of players they'll ask for in return.

Everyone seems to forget this. Flyers are at like 56 mill already for next year with 11 free agents.
