The only players earning their dollar value on the team are Voracek, Simmonds, and Giroux. Everyone else is underperforming. But their contracts are very cap friendly under normal circumstances.

I disagree. They are paid like 2nd pairing guys which they SHOULD be.

Not to full circle this argument but one reason our D is so epxensive is because we don't have any of our own on ELC. If we don't raise em we don't get the home deal discount for the first few years and to trade for good D with small contracts is going to shoot holes somewhere else in the line up. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. The cap will always force teams to grow players from within and (outside of forwards) we aren't very good at that.
The ones who go deep into the play-offs have the right mix hitting the right stride at the right time.

Sure, you don't get rid of Coburn to then overpay for an inferior player off UFA -- you trade him if it can get you a McBain, or Leddy, or blue-chippers like Rundblad/Erixon, etc.

Meszaros gets a pass in my book -- he came back early from both the achilles and shoulder injuries. He probably won't be back to normal until next season, at the earliest.

I wouldn't trade Kimmo because I think they could contend next season with the right offseason moves and it would be tough to replace him. I'd listen though.

Timonen and Briere would fetch very nice returns if they agree to waive.

Gagne and Talbot would get decent returns as well.

Knuble is worth close to nothing tradewise.

Everyone needs to step back and realize the best thing for this organization to do is keep rebuilding. they need to trade as many vets or whoever is not contributing to the team and stockpile the talent and draft picks for this team this summer which is a very deep draft.

Flyers are one of the worst teams in the NHL (healthy) and our AHL team argueably is the worst. that is not a very comforting feeling. Our farm system really does not have alot there , maybe some bottom 6-12 forward spots or 6-7 defenseman.

The outlook for the future right now is bleak...We need to be patient and keep building and not let the PANIC button set in...

I agree we need to keep building. And we have been. I'm fine moving some more vets, but we also simply need time for our Youth to grow. Remember the reason our farm system kind of sucks is that our top Farm guys have graduated to our big team. They weren't in the farm system long. That's good drafting/trading/signing undrafted FA's ... recognizing talent.

I keep pointing to the Ducks who sucked the beginning of last year and this year have stepped it up with minimal roster changes. Sometimes you just need to get the growing pains out. That's what happens when you build it isn't a consistent upward progression.

Not a lost cause by a long shot, but the thing that makes you worry about him is that we were hoping he could elevate his game with more icetime and responsibility in the absence of Pronger/Carle. He's gone the complete other direction. He might not have that next gear to go to.

Despite that, Coburn's trade value is still very high, I would think. Young, big, mobile, under-contract, playoff tested... there's more than a few teams that would a view a player like that as not only the missing piece to a PO run, but a long-term core add. The kind of player you wouldn't mind trading NHL-ready young assets for.

Sharp, as I recall, was:

a.) Redundant, with Richards and Carter in the fold.
b.) Petulant. He and Hitchcock (coach at the time) didn't get along. Clarke did Sharp a favor trading him to the Hawks, where he got a ton of ice time and developed. Unfortunately, Clarke got a crappy return for Sharp.
