Sometimes, we do grow them but trade them off just as they become ripe - Bob, Seidenberg, Sharp, Williams...
- phillydentist

The Flyers have benefitted in their history from other organizations doing this.

In other words, it happens to everyone.

Did you enjoy John LeClair and Eric Desjardins? Because I bet Montreal would re-do that deal.

When Ville Leino was enjoying success with the Flyers.....Detroit practically gave him to the Flyers.

More recently....even as much of a whipping boy as he is now, Atlanta/Winnipeg pretty much gave up on Coburn. I'm guessing, before this year, they'd like that trade back.

Kimmo to me is worth a first + in this years draft.....Most contenders would have no problem paying that.
- Philly1980

Maybe, but you only trade Kimmo if you don't plan on making the PO's next year, too.

Gotta love 'Trashy'.

He was one of the casting choices I agreed with. Most I didn't care for.

That's true (although I would remove Timonen as he was established at the time).

Timonen was drafted by LA

Kimmo was an LA late pick -- they basically gave him away to protect Gary Galley in the expansion draft.

Right...but the objective is to win the cup not make the playoffs every year...i dont see them even coming close next year....the year after is another story..

No good FA out there to fill this teams holes + they dont have the depth on the farm...

it will be another 2/3 years for this team to contend again.

It also must be said that just because a player flourished somewhere else does not necessarily mean they would have been successful here. Ice time, relationship with coaches, ability to handle pressure from fans/media, etc. all play a part in the development in players.

You mean the Flyers and Paul Holmgren aren't the only ones who have blundered on player decisions?

The perfect GM or team that hasn't made the same mistakes, has yet to be found.

Meszaros gets a pass in my book -- he came back early from both the achilles and shoulder injuries. He probably won't be back to normal until next season, at the earliest.
- Tomahawk

He gets a pass for his performance, I agree. I don't have any hope he can stay healthy.

With the situation the team is currently in, I don't see a quick fix on the horizon for next year anyway. Also, Timonen's value would be reduced to rental after this season.

Right now, Meszaros clearly isn't healthy, and is coming off 3 injuries to his Achillies, Back and Shoulder. Just like 30 games doesn't detrmine if a player move is a good one. Neither does one subpar Season, on a team that is subpar as a whole.
- MJL

Coburn is regressing with more responsibility. He's in his prime years. 30 games is a small sample size, but it's not a great sign.

A subpar season on a bad team doesn't give him a pass. It's completely possible to play well on a bad team.

Ferrer as Lloyd, Walston as Glen, Fagerbakke as Tom, and Sheridan as Flagg were good.

Hated the Ringwald choice for Frannie.

Nothing to do with positive/negative. It's using facts to come to a logical conclusion.

They were in much worse shape after 06-07 and made the ECF the following year... just sayin'.

He's not regressing. He's had a bad Season. It happens. Nobody was giving him a pass. How has he been given more responsibilty? His role this Season is identical to last Season.

Coburn will be fine if they add a "number one" guy this summer. Pair him with Timonen or whichever trade addition is made, and you have a pair that can be counted on for half the game
- Jsaquella

number one guy? i just dont see WHO that guy is...

the only way you can get a number one guy is a guy who potentially can be a number 1 a few years down the road...

and even then...you're gonna have to give up quite a bit for him...

I don't think they're far away at all. Schenn and Couturier should bounce back next year, Giroux's going to be back pissed off and they'll have no lock out and a full camp.

It absolutely has to do with positive and negative. Especially when there is an overwhelming trend towards negativity. There is no reason why Meszaros can't get healthy, and stay healthy, in my opinion. If you have Medical facts that state otherwise, I'd be happy to listen.
