There are some absolutely awful teachers...but now the onus has shifted from student accountability to the teacher. Students are never at fault for their failures anymore. - aantny88
Yes but these guys are NHLers! They are not students anymore. They are in the real world now and they have to be able to adjust on the fly and motivate themselves. Laviolette is their boss and bosses don't stand over your shoulder telling you what your suppose to be doing, the worker is suppose to know and do it themselves. He is there to make sure it is getting done and properly.
Part of the blame is his but not all of it. |

Isn't standing over the players' shoulders telling them what to do what an NHL coach does?

He is good and he helps, no doubt. Jagr is a big body power forward who requires more than one player to be on him. With him gone I see less open ice for Giroux than last year. Jagr draws the defense to him and then Giroux bangs it in. - powerhouse
That would make sense except Giroux's points were mostly assists |

- Feanor
The coach gives them assignments. He doesn't stand there and tell each individual player, "Hey you go and score goals, you stop forwards, goalie stop the puck" This is basic stuff. Forwards should already know to crash the net and try to get rebounds, defenceman take the pass on 2 on 1s and goalie to stay square to the shooter and not to cheat on the pass. These are basic fundamentals hockey players should already know. Boss shouldnt have to teach his accountant how to add! |

I wouldn't consider a goalie until the middle stages of round 1. Not in the top 10-12, at least. - bmeltzer
Agreed. I still say they should sign Ryan McKay - goalie for the Miami Redhawks. He wasn't drafted and he's got the best GAA in college hockey by a mile (1.17, next closest is 1.4). There's almost no risk involved in signing him, other than the use of a contract slot. The guy is better than Scrivens (also an undrafted college goalie) and Scrivens is doing okay for the Leafs. |

They have a lot of young NHLers, who most certainly are "students" and still learning about playing in the NHL.
He's called a coach, because part of his job is teaching. |

Nah, I think they have the personnel to compete for a conference title next year if they add a few pieces. |

If workers in any "company" in the Real World, are supposed to be motivated, and always know what they're supposed to do, and do it themselves. Then there would be no need for bosses. But yet they exist in every Company. |

i'd be down for buying out Bryz and trading for Luongo...
you need more from a goalie whose cap hit is almost 6 mil...that's what it comes down...
EDIT: that is, if we dont have to trade much to acquire him... |
