If Backstrom can be attained in the offseason on an over 35 contract no thanks! I'm pretty sure they are going to have to give up young assets to get help on the blue line. To get a Hiller, Bishop, or Bernier is going to cost young assests. For a fan base who complains how impatient they are with their young talent, certainly there appears to be an outcry to ship out pretty quick. I'm all for upgrading the blue line, I would wait on Bryz's fate till after the '14 season when hopefully this team has learned to play some team defense in front of a goaltender. - ravishingone
I agree that the Flyers shouldn't be trading assets for another goalie. Bryz should be on the roster at least another year unless some unforeseen scenerio pops up.
The Flyers went all in on Bryz and now have to ride it out a bit longer good or bad.
Bryz is getting paid to be a top 3 goalie in the league and like it or not (i understand that many people don't), that contract is going to factor into peoples perceptions of the player.
If Briere was making 2 mill a year (for instance) noone would make a fuss over him. He'd have been benched long ago (maybe even traded or waived) and noone would really care. |

I would wait it out with Bryz as you say and if need be buy him out in the 14 season. There are better UFA tenders available then.
When it comes to the D.. the report regarding Boyle intrigues me. I have always liked his game, and I think he would definitely help our D corps. Questions I have are what would the cost be? Does he have enough in the tank to be re signed for maybe a couple of years until he's 38? Honestly, This may be the type of move that we have to make in order to bridge to a younger Dman. Let's say we get lucky and draft Seth Jones. He will not be able to step in right away.. and will take a couple years. This may be just the kind of acquisition that would allow for this transition period. We can't just suck forthe next 3 years with a gaping hole on D that Pronger left, and we won't get a Doughty, Pietrangelo etc type of young dman... they just don't get traded. |

I wasnt referring to you in particulair. And as far as bryz is concerned I had his stats thrown in my face because of his hot start, and I stated that he is an average goalie maybe slightly Better than average at his absolute best and look at his stats and his play now. So yeah everything has changed in the last six weeks. No one Is throwing his stats up now are they? No because he's average like I said. - SMS4016
you again are overlooking things. I'll do this once more but this is getting old. His stats are down but has the team played great in front of him? Is it fair to criticize and compare his numbers to others when he's faced with oddman rushes galore, point blank chances etc meanwhile he's playing every game while other goalies are given nights off? You're not taking everything into consideration. Instead taking what fits your purpose to fervently persuade everyone to get on this Bernier bandwagon, when his scouting report is a carbon copy of Bryzgalov's. Just because he's younger doesn't mean a whole lot when Bryzgalov isn't exactly old. There's no harm in waiting another year, bringing in another coach who preaches a more fundamental system and seeing what happens. |

Just say NO to another AARP contract. Not to mention his cap hit. He's signed through next year at a 6.7 mill/yr contract. The Flyers have enough cap issues. Keep in mind he will be 38 when signs his next contract. |

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just like everyone is entitled to their opinion of your opinion. I've found if your opinions are rash (ie moving a 20 yr old top 10 pick over a 20 game sample size) you are going to get rash responses.
My two cents: try to be a little more level headed, less argumentative and if you want someone to take your opinion seriously then make it with out saying things like a guy is injured because of a tampon. - hereticpride
Well if briere threw a hit once in awhile I wouldn't reference tampon. And when Im wrong I admit. When I gave opinion bryz is just average stats were thrown in my face and now those "facts" were proven wrong as he is actually well below average. Now I don't blame it all on bryz but those were the "facts" to disprove my claim bryz is average. Now I say cooter will never be this 25 to 30 goal scorer in Philly and alot of people disAgrred with me. Now if coots puts up those numbers in Philly I'll be the 1st one on here to eat crow. Point is anyone can offer their "fact" it is all Relative. I will try to post in a way to not seem argumentative. But sometimes I am extreme can't help that. Ie

“I feel exhausted, and I’m pretty sure my team feels the same way because it’s a crazy schedule,” Bryzgalov said. “Lots of travel, lots of games, lots of back-to-back games and sometimes it’s just tough to find the energy and emotions to play some games, even when you know it’s a very important game. But nothing is left inside you because you need some time to regroup.”

Let's keep in mind what his Phoenix teammates said about Bryz :
http://www.broadstreethoc...yotes-philadelphia-flyers
Q: Is he misunderstood? Sometimes you look at a guy who's speaking a second language and go wait a minute. My take on it is that's an excuse, so I'm gonna say no, but I'm not his teammate. I was just watching.
A:No, he's a pretty smart guy. He knew what he was saying.
Q: There is a mental strength that is missing there, right?
A:We're actually glad -- first of all, I'm glad he's gone because the guy we brought in has done a great job and fitted in real well, made our team even closer. There was some animosity there with Bryz sometimes. We don't have that with - Flyers_01[Mike Smith] so we have a good group and we're winning games because of it.
--------------------------
Those were his teammates quotes and while we should take them with a grain of salt, we shouldn't dismiss them just because Bryz is on the Flyers and everyone wants him to do well. The gist I get from some of this is that Bryz plays up the language issue because fans fall for it.
didn't holmgren even say he wish he did his homework on bryz?

It definitely has some risk involved, but it needs to be explored. Apparenlty he has a limited NTC and can be traded to some teams.. not sure if we are on the list. If Briere is bought out, then we'd have more cap space. there are ways to manage it. I just don't think we can contend with the current D corps. It needs to be upgraded and what we need doesn't grow on trees. |

how did the blackhawks and penguins keep winning - 2Real
First, they are a mentally tougher teams. I find it interesting that after the Panthers games when the Flyers gots pasted after beating the Pens the night before in Pittsburgh, Kimmo came out after the game and didn't want to make excuses, but said the team arrived in town late and was tired. Yet, no one calls out Kimmo after those comments.
Basically, for a team that is supposed to have veteran leadership, guys like Kimmo, Coburn, Briere, etc. are doing just as much dumb things on the ice as the sophomores. The good teams this year are getting strong, consistent play from their vets. |

And their goes your theory right out the window! The team played the same in front of bryz all year long. So I don't need to take all that into consideration. I dont blame bryz for everything, never Did, but as stated overall not good enough. He's average. Unless of course you can explain how team has played piss poor defense in front of bryz all year ( except for a few games) and bryz was so good for a little bit then bad which overall = average? |

If the Flyers had any intent to fire Lavi it would've been done during this huge break the Flyers have had the last 2 weeks. If the Flyers get pasted tonight and Lavi get's fired it will be comedy central in the media about how bad the Flyers mishandled the situation in keeping Lavi over the break. |

how exactly was he bad? He's been bad in a handful of games. 5 at the most. My theory goes nowhere. It's no secret that NUMBERS put up by players are impacted by the level of play from their teammates. The fact that Bryzgalov, which you just admitted to, played good behind a bad team further entrenches the argument of retaining him a little longer. |

At this point I don't care if they keep or fire him or when. Thought it was interesting that that same situation happened to us three weeks ago and it wasn't just one game but three. |

Okay just google Bryzgalov amazing glove save on Kris letang in playoffs, that's our goalie too. Last I checked there's no shootout in the playoffs, unless you follow various mainstream beat writers in philadelphia. Also all goalies get scored on in the shootout which shouldn't even be part of the game.
Now I'm really out. |

Like iVe said before, yes bryz can play good at times. Even in game but he's average. Same team in front of him through good and bad. What are his stats. How many games has he stolen for us. How many times does he look lost on a breakaway or shoot out. With that cap hit he's gotta go. Sorry. And I like him personally, he reminds me of biron. Great guy Great personality Average goalie |

Our core is young. We will not be competing for a cup for at least 3 years. Once that is accepted by people it's a mutE point. We can either get a vet to play a few years or trade for a young high upside goalie with a little experience and let them grow with the core. I'm fine either way. We have a few years. |

Embarrassing. The Philly media needs to stop taking everything he say verbatim. It's obvious he struggles with the language. Stop dissecting every little thing.
I was actually surprised to here Macnow call out some guys over this on air. - hereticpride
I totally agree. Bryz obviously hasn't mastered english enough to be able to convery certain nuances and express certain sentiments in a way that's sensitive to the perception of the media, the fans or even teammates...and the culture he grew up with was different in the way they speak of such things...so his statements can appear blunt or insensitive/off-putting at times. It's kind of an issue...everybody would probably be be better off if Bryz was off limits to the media during the season imo.
