Another great point. Couts is have a terrible year... dont rush judgement and give up on him. - jak521
I'm with you. I said a few months ago that Couturier has the potential to develop into a Guy Carbonneau type of shut down center with the ability to chip in 25+goals and 70 points. To write him off at age 20, after a sophomore slump would be insane! |

With the lockout and the way this team is headed (and will continue to head unless their organizational mindset changes and patience becomes a norm), I'm really becoming apathetic, you guys. |

My guess with Briere is that the Flyers are trying to work out a deal to a few teams of Danny's choosing with part of the deal being the team must agree to buy Briere out at the end of the season. My guess is out of respect for Briere, they are listing him as "injured", rather than as a healthy scratch. |

The new team would have to agree to buy him out first.
Would you be cool with trading a good asset and then buying out the guy you traded for?
What he could do is secure a promise from the new team that they'd use a compliance buy out on him in June before agreeing to waive the NMC. - Jsaquella
It's for that reason that I think he will be traded for a late 2nd round pick at best, maybe only a 3rd. |

I heard it was a fanbase transplant that could take care of it, but I just can't do it. My heart's too weak. |

Honestly, expecting more for him without that qualification is being optimistic.
I figured, all along, best they would get was a 2nd rounder and half decent prospect. Briere's playoff performances are a great selling point, but two additional years on his deal will scare teams off. |

Kovy going down in Jersey is huge for you guys to make a push to over take the Devils. That team has little to no scoring. |

at this point briere is no where near eliteplayer anymore, im thinking he should be happy with whoever would want him and who will give him the most ice time, he still could be a #1 or #2 center on some teams, sounds alot better then the fourth or third line winger, its peculiar that he got hurt after practicing on the fourth line. |

He's at the point of his career, where he's more likely to care about location and chances to win than simply playing out the string. |

So... if I have my math right...
NJ offense - Kovi = Flyers offense? |

From mynhltraderumors.com: "The Flyers would like to move Daniel Briere. He has a no-movement clause and feels he could be an amnesty buyout in the summer. He’d then have the choice as to where he’d end up as a free-agent."
If that's the case, wouldn't he still have that same option in the summer if he were traded? - mikel33
He would make a lot more money being bought out and then signing a new contract. But then he has to go through being bought out which he may not want to do. He could save face by being traded..... I'm just typing and think at the same time and have no idea what he is thinking. |

I don't think the 2 additional years will bother any contender. I believe he is only owed 5 million total for those seasons, so a buyout would only cost 3 million and change. Thats not much of a price to pay especially if that team has just made a deep playoff run or won a cup.
With the injury to Kelly and the fact that Kreici has been banged up a few times this season, I could see Boston giving up a 2nd for Briere than buying him out at years end. I know Briere has been horrible this season, but his track record of poor regular seasons followed by fantastic playoff performances will get the deal done. |

However, it is the 6.5 million cap hit that WILL scare teams off.
