I agree he would probably want to go to a contender to get a chance at a cup. I think his PO experience is his real value. But he also has value to a smaller market team because he is being paid about 4M and cap hit is 6M. Combine those two thoughts and: I think STL, Nashville, or PHX (if they think they can squeeze in) are ideal trade partners for that reason. - coffee junkie
Possible, but he'd have to agree to go to those places, and they might not be willing to do a buy out, which means he's playing there for the foreseeable future. |

Zubrus was really badly handled. They kept him in the NHL when he should have spent another year in juniors, then spent another 2 or 3 years in the AHL.
Roger Neilson really handled him badly, too, healthy scratches and even had him practice as a defenseman - Jsaquella

True or false? Once a player waives their NTC/NMC/Hi-C, it is not in effect with their new team.
I'm wondering if the team that gets him instead would try to trade him the following year if the clause is no longer in effect. |

I like the cut of your jib, but you don't think NSH holds onto Weber to save face - and keep the lone stalwart on D it has left from the Suter-Weber pairing? - Flyskippy
he said in two years... i think next year they hold onto him but by the year after that the flyers will have pried him out of there somehow. |

Yes, but a team has to agree to buy him out. Some teams will shy away from paying him $833,334 every year for the next four years just to rent him for 15 games and the playoffs. - Jsaquella
Some will, but some will consider 800k a year chump change if it improves their chance to win a cup. |

If the Flyers were to trade Briere, it wouldn't be until much, much closer to the deadline. And they'd have to be even further out of the playoff picture.
Guarantee you that they're not giving up on the postseason just yet. - bradleyc4
So... a week from now.
I predicted somewhere they'd go 1-3-1 in this five game stretch, and that will surely put them in full seller's mode on April 1st and 2nd. |

You get a team like Boston, who is very unlikely to use a comp buy out and you might be able to cut bait. - Jsaquella
Boston already fields about 6 centers in their line-up. They're probably much more into someone like Iginla than Briere. |

I know, his family will have a huge impact on his decisions too (probably more then anything). I think PHX could be a possible destination for that reason. He has lived there and played for them before. And lets admit it. AZ is a nice place to live. All speculation on my part. |

Right, but if they go 3-1-1, they might be right back in the thick of things for a playoff spot. And likely wouldn't trade Briere. |

I think they'd give up a 3rd and a prospect. Brenden Morrow is a broken down heap of a third liner. He just got a very good prospect and 3rd rounder.
Briere's rep as a big game hunter will be worth something if he agrees to waive. - Jsaquella
do you think he would go to boston? and if so would there be away to get dougie |

True, but the team can choose to honor the clause after the trade.

No way you get Hamilton for Briere. You want Hamilton, it's going to cost Couturier, Schenn or Read. |

Do you see this team going 3-1-1? I'm not sure I see this team getting close to .500 again. |

Anyone notice Giroux's stick floats up by his waist way too much. Even on the back check he rarely has it on the ice. |

It probably would also depend on whether or not Briere is putting up any points.
If they could get a top-4 d prospect (such as Morrow for Morrow) while getting out from under Briere's contract, I think they pull the trigger regardless. The question is whether the Flyers would bring that player up for the rest of the season while they push toward the post-season which could in theory help out the team more than an unproductive Briere.
Also, some teams are going to get more desperate this coming week. |

I think if they're assuming they have a shot to make the playoffs, they don't move Briere. They've seen him flip the switch in the playoffs too often to move a guy who could be their leading playoff scorer again, especially if they're a low seed. |

My guess with Briere is that the Flyers are trying to work out a deal to a few teams of Danny's choosing with part of the deal being the team must agree to buy Briere out at the end of the season. My guess is out of respect for Briere, they are listing him as "injured", rather than as a healthy scratch. - BiggE

I wouldn't, either. I'd say it's no better than 50-50 he goes anywhere, maybe less. |
