Good. I hope the Pens keep giving up their picks and prospects to Western teams. It's not like we're in serious contention this year.

I imagine this puts a lot of pressure on Boston to pull the trigger on Iginla...or maybe Briere if there's actual interest there.

- wolfhounds

Briere wont waive his NTC, hes already stated that like a billion times
we will have to use one of our amnesty's on him in the offseason.
Or maybe Homer/SNider can say to him "look you can either waive your NTC, let us trade you to a team of your liking, and help us out so we can get picks and prospects for our future, or we could amnesty you in the offseason."

If he is traded, and not bought out. He won't be a Free Agent in the Summer. He has two more years left on his deal.

would you be impressed w/ the flyers forward mix if they traded (at the very least) b schenn and gusty for yandle? just trying to approximate the EJ and gogo deals and frankly, i think I'm buying low. at some point you run out of talent to trade and then you get into draft picks and then you run out of cap space.

Dmen as an asset are worth more than forwards on balance. i agree w/ your approach to drafting dmen from the 2nd rnd on, cause something has to change.

- isaiah520

Losing one young forward isn't going to break the team of it's depth. They can draft new players. Sign and or trade for other players. I think the Flyers drafted 4 D men in the last draft.

Murray is tough, but he's also looked like he's lost 5 steps. Really having a rough go this season.

The thing I find interesting is the Pens are already at the top of the league, they are missing Malkin and Letang, yet they are still adding players to the mix and giving up picks/prospects? It seems odd. Who exactly are they building up to play against?

And here's to hoping their team chemistry gets thrown out of whack.

To attain assets in this draft. There are options in UFA. Some of the UFA's can actually play, and then you have a couple nice draft picks

Don't forget that with about 22-24 teams still legitimately in the playoff hunt and anywhere from 7 to 10 who probably feel they have at least a shot at getting to the finals, there will be a lot more buyers than sellers. This will only raise the value of Briere and any other vet the Flyers are willing to part with.

Yes, because a team that's 22 points ahead of them in the standings grabs two rentals, the F;yers, who are on the cusp of being sellers, should trade for rentals, too

(frank)ing brilliant.

That would be much more suddle. Idt Danny deserves to be handled that harshly though.
He's been nothing but class for Philly fans since he came here. We should show some class back.

Well... what's the difference? He's currently enjoying the view from the best seats in the house, and I don't think a buy out is a "threat" to him.. He gets to go wherever and more $$$ for his "presence".

They're getting solid vets, who are good locker room types. The only worry I'd have as a Pens fan is that they're paying a lot and getting guys who are showing the signs of wear and tear that may limit them to 3rd/4th line uses

Really though, he's done nothing this year. In fact, his play has been really sub-par the past couple years, outside of the playoffs. Going through large slumps like he has, and then just turn on the switch in the playoffs has gotten old.

It's probably where the group has learned that mentality over the past several years. Lindros got smoked in this city for "coasting" through games, or "taking a shift off" in games. Danny doesn't play defense. Hasn't for years. Lately, he looks hesitant to even go into the corners to get the puck. He has been nothing offensively either.

If they can get anything for him, he should show some class and waive because he deserves to sit some games out with his play lately.

That is all I want from this year- PIT to fall on their faces after over spending at the deadline while Philly obtains assets for their vets. Screw PIT.

BTW: Why trade Coburn? Sure he is having a bad year but who will play all those minutes? And for a late 1st? I say- NO!

Wow, Kypreos says the price on Murray is 2 2nd rounders or a 2nd & 3rd.
- Jsaquella

The Pens are really going for it this year. Having said that, so far they've traded 2 2nds and a 1st (which will all no doubt be 27+ picks in their rounds.

Paying a lot. If someone like Boston knocks them off in the ECF's there will be tears.

Now now. Who said I wanted the Flyers to be buyers?
(frank) I now we're out of the playoffs. I dont know if Homer knows that or not. I want him to make a move to dictate what the (frank) the plan is. Are we going to try and go on this stupendous run into the playoffs, or sell?
Start making moves, to show us what the hell the plan is. Some teams are clear buyers, some are clear sellers. We are as visible as mud right now. I personally think we should be selling, trying to get Danny to waive his NTC, or acquire picks or something. Im sure we could find a suitor for Danny, a career PPG guy in the playoffs, and get a decenter package for him too. Hell maybe even a 1st round pick (Paul Gaustad got one) and we just saw Douglas Murray pick up 2 2nds.
If we keep on pace, we should be able to get Darnell Nurse with our 1st. That'd be (frank)ing awesome. And if we could geta 1st for Danny (its not out of the question for a PPG playoff performer) we might be able to pick up Josh Morrissey depending on where that pick lands.

Back-to-back 2nds is definitely a high price...

The Pittsburgh Penguins have reportedly acquired defenceman Douglas Murray from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for their second round draft pick in both the 2013 and 2014 NHL Drafts.

The 33-year-old Swede has scored three assists with a minus-eight rating in 29 games with the Sharks this season.

Murray is in the final year of a four-year, $10 million deal he signed with the Sharks prior to the 2009-10 season. That deal carries an average annual value of $2.5 million.

Originally drafted in the eighth round (241st overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Sharks. In 451 career games - all with San Jose - he has scored six goals, added 53 assists and posted a plus-32 rating.

No doubt. These transactions will be measured against playoff performance. Anything less than the cup, and the trades have to be viewed as poor decisions.
