they wanna trade schenn, or hartnell or simmonds, straight up? fine, but lets stop stunting the growth of the franchise with blockbuster trades, just cause they make waves and feel good. - JoeRussomanno
What trades were made just because they made waves? |

Why not? Flyers could use a goal scorer thats for sure and Im sorry I just dont see any kind of offensive skill from Couts....I understand this is his only his second year but he has no hands and is not very fast on his skates. I think Flyers would do that deal in a heartbeat that is Ryan for Couts swap. - flyerfan28
You don't score 90+ points in back to back Junior Seasons if you have no hands. I think the Flyers would be fools to trade Couturier for Ryan.

he's gonna be a free agent in two years... It makes no sense whatsoever to trade couturier for him. If he really lays in bed at night clutching his bob clarke bobbelhead then he can wait two years to sign here. - JoeRussomanno
Yeah, I'm sure that the Flyers will happily wait for him to hit FA and hope he signs here, after giving big raises to Giroux and others. |

All sarcasm considered, Bobby Clarke did a lot for Bobby Ryan and his family. |

So he won't get a big raise just because they trade a potential franchise player for him? |

No, Joe, not saying that at all. But I am saying that getting a consistent 30 goal scorer is something that they would probably love to do, and it frees up other assets to make a trade for a defenseman. |

Actually, I think you could get a pretty good defenseman for one of the Flyers forwards, other than Schenn or Couturier. - Jsaquella
Lots of roster turnover going about it that way |

okay but still the guy is set to hit free agency in two years. Do we really want to trade a player that is touted as highly as couturier who basically will be ours for about 7 more years and who could be used to trade for what the team really needs? Couturier, simmonds, read and hartnell all gone and we have Ryan + __ defenseman. 3 of those guys could make pretty good linemates for Giroux already and there's no clear acquisition in sight to address the team needs. Plus that's a serious blow to your depth. I don't like it. |

Not really. Couturier for Ryan, Other winger for defenseman 2 out, 2 in. Hardly massive turnover |

A lot of cooters struggles have to do with him being a pretty wiry 20 yr old. In hoping he does lots of strength training and explosive training type stuff. He's good to go with some added bulk |

I think Ryan is a good player. However on a team that is struggling to find consistency I dont really like Ryan.
He seems to be too much of a complimentary piece for his salary. Just dont see enough fire in the guy consistently imo. |

you stated that a male role model type did a lot for him and if you didn't intend to it implied that Ryan somehow has a desire or feels an obligation to play here. I basically countered with a very similar scenario. So it actually has about 90% to do with what you said. |

I would trade couturier for a defenseman and one of those other players yes. It will deplete the forward corps a bit but that doesn't mean you go out and swap two more forwards to fill that hole. Unless they are easily replaceable. This just feels like another pronger trade in the works except this time the player isn't even what is needed. |
