Its a shame that Despres is going to get the raw end of the Murray deal. - nbartley9
eh... he's 21, getting paid a lot of money to play hockey (or watch it from the press box). I'm sure he wants to play, but being a part of a potential championship team every day might do more for his long term development than playing a couple dozen more games this season.
Was anyone crying for Kris Letang when he was replaced by Darryl Sydor in the 08 cup run? Its a similar situation with Despres. Those guys can step in at crucial times. Few teams have that luxury
But the fact is that he has looked better than Engelland, Eaton and even Niskanen. I'm still sticking my theory that they are trying to slow his development so that they can pay him less for his next contract
I really like what Eaton brings to the team he has been a great pick up, i think he has a calming presence on the ice and in the locker room. I just feel bad for Despres, that kid has played very well. - nbartley9
Yea he has, he's a keeper. He'll be in the line up from day 1 next year. I still don't think we've seen the end of him this year either.
My point is, at his age him not getting the chance to play isn't going to hinder his development. It's going to make him want it that much more when he gets his chance. I also think he would benefit from being up with the team even if he's not playing in the playoffs. Just being in the room and around the guys day in and day out will be a great learning experience for him. Whether or not the team agrees I'm not sure. They might want him playing games in WBS.
Kid is going to be an absolute stud for many years.

That is the same sentiment that Shero and Bylsma have shared. Basically making a point to compare him with Letang. He will get his chance eventually and will still be a part of things. I'm satisfied with that. Still, I don't want to see him abandoned in the process. He does need to play a larger role if he earns it in his chances.

If anything trading Joe Morrow probably has given him a sense of relief more than any amount of ice time could right now.
Bylsma wont hesitate to change the roster if a series isnt going the right way. Last year we didnt habe that option on the back end with injuries. Its a good thing

I dont think it will either, but I sure do think its going too really anger him. It would me atleast, I will say; Despres seems to me to be pretty tough in the head.

I think you can thank Kris Letang for a lot of that...he's be mentoring him since he got here

You have to be when your eyes are that far apart. And I don't believe for a second that you would be angered so easily. Maybe the old bartley, but not the new one.

There was one play a handful of games ago where at the last minute he picked up a guy coming late in the slot, and all I could think of was, like a horse, he can look to the left and to the right at the same time, so it's not surprising that he saw him lol
