Did anyone else see the Darren Dreger comments on TSN about a possible Coots for Bobby Ryan deal....I understand we would have to give up more, but what is everybody opinion if something like were to happen this off season. Just wondering - nonpoint22
My two cents:
It seems like the Flyers have liked Ryan for a number of emotional reasons: local kid, his dad was buddies with Clarke.
That's letting emotions cloud your judgement. Gotta be careful when that happens.
Big game tonight, my Flyery (Flyerite? Flyerizer? Flyertonian?) friends - please beat the Rangers.
In regulation, of course. |

Does it matter that Ryan is a RW, and we already have Vorachek and simmonds who are most comfortable as a RW - nonpoint22
Not really, as you'd likely have to trade Simmonds for a defenseman after dealing Couturier for Ryan |

That notorious dog was almost a point peg game player for his entire tenure as a Capital. - Jsaquella
And how did they and he do in the playoffs. Lots of guys put up huge regular season numbers on that team. |

Perhaps, but I remember watching him in Washington after he got his last good contract and he just seemed to disappear for long stretches during games. - BiggE
I suppose but they really destroyed that team. I read a really interesting article about how they got on that losing streak a few years back and tried to switch to playing the trap and it ruined the team.
Here's the article. Worth a read, IMO: http://www.japersrink.com...vechkin-capitals-trap-fml |

I would do this without a second's hesitation. Bobby Ryan would be an excellent winger for Giroux/Voracek's line. With Laughton most likely to make the team next year, Coots has become a little more expendable. Not sure what else the Ducks would want in the deal, but maybe Gustaffson thrown in and a 3rd/4th round pick. I would not part with this year's first round pick, as they need that for hopefully a dman. - aantny88
In my opinion Laughton has little effect on making Couturier expendable. And I would not trade a player of Couturier's potential for a goal scoring Winger. What Couturier is going to become, is far more valuable than what Ryan brings, in my opinion. |

Personally, there is no way in hell I'd trade Couturier for Byfuglien. I have very little interest in him. On fence with the other two players. - MJL
OF the guys mentioned Buff is the one I want the least...I think the highest chance of them becoming a flyer goes to Yandle, but I still think it is a longshot cause it is going to cost a fortune....Look what Douglas Murray cost.....two 2nds are you kidding me.... |

Gustaffson isn't a 20 year old kid, he's 24 now. He should be playing games for the Flyers. What the (frank) is the purpose of Bruno Gervais playing games? This team is dead in the water. Not to mention Gustaffson is probably a better player than Gervais. So incredibly stupid. - PLindbergh31
I agree. I would let him get his experience. |

Count me as a Flyer admirer who thinks any deal for Bobby Ryan would be counter productive at best and stupid in the worse case situation for the Flyers.
I would rather have Voracek and Simmonds than Ryan. They are younger, with better contracts and are both good team players.
I am not opposed to Ryan as a player. But, when you do one thing (plan A) it may make it harder to do something else (plan B).
If I am looking at doing a deal for Ryan offering up a Couturier package, it takes away from the possibility I can put a package together to make an offer for a #1 Dman. Or worse, I need to offer up guys like Voracek or Simmonds to get get the guy I want.
Color me skeptical.

honestly i think even foster is better than bruno - Don'tForgetTocchet
He probably is. But that is like saying the electric chair is better than the firing squad. Gustafsson has played enough in the minor leagues, it's time to find out if he's an NHL defenseman. Let him play the last 17 games without interruption. |

They'll probably be able to sign Ryan as a free agent in 2015 anyway. I'd rather wait. |

And while I'm here:
Have any of you seen JVR?
I went to the police station this morning to file a missing persons report, but they said that they couldn't do that just yet.
They suggested I go back to his old haunts and see if there have been any reports of him.
We are all getting a little worried. Any news of him would be greatly appreciated by Leafs Nation.
thank you. |

Shattenkirk may be more realistic with all the RFAs St. Louis has coming up. I'm not a huge fan of Byfuglien either. He'd be last on that list for me. - NickTheKid87
He wouldn't even be on any list for me. No interest whatsoever. |

He dropped from a 0.87 PPG pace to a 0.5 PPG pace. Similar playoff PPG numbers as Brooks Laich. |

Thanks for the link, some good points there. Perhaps I'm wrong on Semin, only time will tell. He's just a guy that has always looked like he was never going all out, but I have seen only Hurricanes game this year, so perhaps he has turned a new leaf. |

This cracked me up. Don't worry JVR will find his stride again. Probably fighting off a small injury and shaken his confidence a bit. He's still young so expect some streakiness. He'll bring it in the play-offs when you guys make it. |

That's the issue I have. I'm not sure it's good or bad, I'd have to see what they did to fill the hole on defense after the trade. |

Its funny cause honestly everything I heard about L Schenn from Leafs fans on here was completely true....and JVR is exactly how we described him to you guys....he does this....very streaky, but as long as he stays healthy you guys should be fine with him

JVR having gone missing means he finally showed up. Or at least how we knew him.
This has pretty much been Reemer's MO. Hopefully he can figure out how to be more consistent. |

Consistency is his biggest issue. Was a force some games, other games completely invisible.
