Can they be played? I'm not convinced they cannot. After all bob turned in the best performance if the Boston series after Lavy parked him in the press box for leighton. Another thing this coach does that drives me crazy; constant mismanagement of goaltenders. I still can't believe he won a cup juggling tenders. Who knows maybe he reinvented the wheel that year. - JoeRussomanno

One needs to look at what led to that decision. Laviolette went into the playoffs with Bobrovsky as his starter. By the second game, Bob was the third string goalie. He criminally mishandled his goalies in the 2011 playoffs, which led to Snider declaring that they would fix the goalie position. That led to Bryz getting a 9 year deal and Bob knowing he'd never get a real shot to start here. - Jsaquella
I agree 100%....they gave up on a very athletic young goalie with a significant potential. Bob was a legitimate backup though at a reasonable price should have never been traded. |

That stuff on lavi 's resume looks a tad dry, a formaldehyde treatment is in order. Also he didn't win a cup here, IMO that too should not excuse poor performance even if he did win one here. - JoeRussomanno
just busting man
there were a few holes in your logic. lavi prob should have been shown the door before the break they just had. it was the best chance to revitalize the team and try to make a run. now they're dead... |

I dont see why Boosh cant get some pt but Leighton definitely cant boggles my mind why flyers re-signed him. |

As good, if not a bit better. Depends. Do you think Giroux is better than John Tavares? Because that's who MacKinnon compares to-and MacKinnon is a better skater. - Jsaquella
Interesting, so I'm assuming your top 3 have a very good chance of playing in the NHL next year. I don't condone tanking, but the reality is I don't think this coach or leadership group has any idea how to get team back on track. It is unfortunate, but I believe it will be a very ugly remaining games. They just were casually skating all throughout the third period, no fight whatsoever. |

Bob was also a developing young player that needed the ice time to succeed, and as a pending RFA, could have jumped back to Russia to force a trade, like Semyon Varlamov threatened to do.
Once Bryz was signed, the writing was on the wall with Bob |

Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury was replaced by Tomas Vokoun for the start of the third period of Tuesday night's game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Fleury, who is on a personal seven-game winning streak, appeared dazed after being inadvertently bowled into by teammate Tyler Kennedy during the final minute of the second period. Play was stopped for several moments while Fleury composed himself, and he remained in the game.
And Bob and Columbus currently 0 - 0 vs Vancouver. |

I would bet the Top 5 play right away in the NHL of course lots can happen before then.....This team wont tank on purpose but they are bad enough that the chips should land them in the top 5 at least. |

You are correct and never thought of it in that angle...Who knows if he would have bailed to the KHL but at least the flyers would have had him for this season and who knows could have fetched a better return for a goalie desperate team. You are right though as long as Bryz was here he wasnt going to to see much time.

I don't think we're looking at a rebuild...more like a reset. New coach and mentality/identity, a piece or two on D and this thing can work within the next few years and Hartnell is what, 30? I don't see why he can't be part of the mix..you need some vets to go with the youth. - exlund
i hope you're right man |

i know, but i just couldn't amen that one because murray's never won anything. also, while i'd be on board w/ a coaching change, homer knows the off season was a clusterphuck and bryz has been uneven.
i would have canned lavi before the break and tried to make a run... - isaiah520
I hate calling for a guy's job. Hate it....and I like Lavi as a coach, but I think they need to have some sort of paradigm shift sooner rather than later. The young guys need to have something to build on. It is a tough call because outside of Terry Murray 2.0 I don't see a lot of options unless they tap someone from the minors like Tampa just did with Cooper. I don't want Ruff or Guy Boucher in Philly. I do know that. |

I think that MacKinnon is the most NHL ready. Jones and Drouin could probably step in and play right away, but with more growing pains.
Nichushkin has a world of talent-and is actually rated ahead of Drouin and MacKinnon by ISS-but is felt to be more of a project. Monahan could probably make the jump, but I'd be patient on him, like Florida was with Huberdeau. Barkov and Lindholm could probably make the jump immediately, too.
Barkov's playing in a men's league and doing very well and Lindholm has a very well rounded game, so there'd be little pressure for him to produce right away.
The issue with those two is, the general feeling is that their ceilings aren't as high as the others. They look like they will be very solid NHLers, but the rest all are seen as future top liners, if not franchise type guys.

I wouldn't complain for a second if they had the top pick and took Jones. But he's going to have growing pains.
And if they drop to 7th or so, and take Nurse, he's probably 2 or 3 years away. |
