I'd advise not holding your breath or buying perishable foods for the "Coburn's Gone Party"
I'd be somewhat surprised if he's traded - Jsaquella
I'm looking for Coburn - realizing he's not performing well this year - to have an excellent year next year, having completely rid himself of whatever virus is causing hockeyus playerus horrendous. |

I'd have been shocked otherwise.
I like the trade as well. But the games I'm watching through my orange colored glasses reveal Schenn spinning, standing still and hesitating quite often while trying to figure out what to do with the puck. - wolfhounds
What I see is patience under pressure with the puck, and rather then panicking and giving the puck away. He uses his options and more times then not, makes the right choice. That's a good thing, not a bad thing. And that is what he is supposed to do. That is one of the more impressive areas of his game so far. Especially playing on a team that doesn't get a ton of support from the forwards. |

Exactly.. To be honest, I expected him to struggle here just based off of Leafs fans.. but he has impressed me a lot. He is impressing others as well.. ya know, considering he played 28 minutes the other night. - jak521
The biggest fear of Leafs fans (who mostly want L. Schenn to succeed) was that he would struggle, the Flyers fans would get on him, and his confidence would be shot.
He really struggled at times due to lost confidence. It was painful to watch.
And well, you guys have a bit of a reputation, so you could see how we would be worried... |

So to summarize the rumour happenings and talk on here the past 2 days, since I've been away...
Dreger says Briere to Montreal for a pick(s) is a possibility if Briere is healthy. I wonder if this is strictly for the deadline, or if they would do that swap this off-season as well?
Dreger also says there are rumblings of a Coots for Ryan swap, as a "hockey trade" and possibly this off-season?
Mentions of trading any combination of Schenn, Coots, Read, Simmonds, Meszaros, Coburn, and Gus for the #1 d-man we require. Yandle, Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Bouwmeester, OEL, Fat Bastard, etc still being the names being dropped.
Oh, and the mere mention of trading Giroux for said #1 d-man makes me want to throw my laptop at the old lady walking by in front of my house.
That all I missed? Oh right, fire Lavy, buyout Bryz. There! - Rocktane
Very concise...Thank you |

Briere to Habs would strictly be a TDL deal
A Couturier for Ryan swap would have to have more moving pieces and doesn't address the need for a defenseman. Unsure how they'd address that. |

There should never be any criteria for doing this. If you pass up the opportunity, you'll regret it for life. |

He wasn't brought here for his offensive ability. Most defenseman shoot the puck when they have it at the point. His skating issues were massively overblown. - MJL
I think you are correct.
Leaf fans wanted him to be more than what he plays. He has the potential to be a top #2 when paired with a number 1. Other than for goalies, a top shut down Dman has the longest development curve of any prospect. Leaf fans are even more impatient than Flyer fans. |

As long as he hits and keeps the glaring mistakes to a minimum, he'll be beloved.
There's still people that think Dan McGillis was a very good player, and all he did was hit people and blow his positioning while having a hard shot from the point |

I've been presently surprised. I wouldn't say leafs fans are way out of whack with his shortcomings. I think he will get better positionally |

WHAT!?! All Flyers fans have rainbows coming out of our butts and poop coming out of our mouths... Who could hate that?
But all in all you are right. Luckily for him he's been one of our better defenseman.... |

Some of that is because there is often no forward making himself available for an outlet pass. |

He's never going to be an "anchor" defenseman. He's a guy that needs to play with a good partner, and when he does, he's very capable. When he feels pressed to be the alpha dog, that's when he struggles. |

I was told that Briere would be very reluctant to waive his NTC due to custody issues - any truth to that?
Because he's exactly what the Habs don't need after this year (big cap hit, no actual money) and exactly what some small market teams would welcome.
But if he won't want to move again, it may make it harder for the Habs to flip him in the off-season. |

Fortunately, he seems to be doing fine here and hasn't been tossed under the microscope. The way he plays, you won't hear too much about him, but that's fine by me. He played monster minutes against the Pens. |

I saw it was reported that Don Maloney and Homer meet for hours in Pittsburgh this week, now rumors of a Bobby Ryan deal from a creditable source...I just wonder if ( hypothetically speaking) they somehow make one or both moves (Yandle, Ryan) that we would just hit the reset button again...How many times can you totally transform your lineup.... |

That's what I'm thinking if it goes down
Couturier + for Ryan and then Read + for Yandle. |

I doubt there's any way on Earth you get Ryan for Briere and Read, even if Briere is fully healthy.
Not sure how you're getting Myers cheap, either. He's going to require a significant asset to acquire. - Jsaquella
Is he though? he's kinda been struggling in Buffalo |

a few trying to pick holmgren's pocket. Flyers aren't going to go for a quick fix this year. Get impression they are looking forward only.
Should be a blockbuster trade any day this week! |
