Two things. Anaheim is not going to have any interest in Briere. And Ian White in my opinion is not a player I'd be interested in. He's a smallish offensive defenseman that is nothing special offensively. And what is cheap for Myers? I notice there is not a significant player other then who you traded for Ryan. Buffalo is going to give Myers away? - MJL
no, not give him away - but he hasn't been outstanding for buffalo -- change of scenery might do. If they do Coots for Ryan, I'd do Read and a prospect/pick for Myers. |

I was told that Briere would be very reluctant to waive his NTC due to custody issues - any truth to that?
Because he's exactly what the Habs don't need after this year (big cap hit, no actual money) and exactly what some small market teams would welcome.
But if he won't want to move again, it may make it harder for the Habs to flip him in the off-season. - Atomic Wedgie
Yes his kids are a main reason why he wants to stay in Philadelphia area |

I saw it was reported that Don Maloney and Homer meet for hours in Pittsburgh this week, now rumors of a Bobby Ryan deal from a creditable source...I just wonder if ( hypothetically speaking) they somehow make one or both moves (Yandle, Ryan) that we would just hit the reset button again...How many times can you totally transform your lineup.... - nonpoint22
And we wonder why free agents dont want to come here |

Personally, there is no way in hell I'd trade Couturier for Byfuglien. I have very little interest in him. On fence with the other two players. - MJL
I'd rather keep Couturier if those are the only 3 we can get - Ryan on the other hand, I'd do it. |

Some of that is because there is often no forward making himself available for an outlet pass. - Feanor
No doubt. Just offering my opinion on the "Schenn is slow" conversation. The kid's rock solid and should only get better.
I do wonder what impact being with family has had on his play in Philly and whether breaking them up - if a good trade for B Schenn was made available - is a good idea. |

i just get frustrated with him because he could be so much more. - jak521
Some guys just are what they are. In the 70s Rick Macleish had the skills to be the best player in the league, however he just never showed up on a consistent basis, although he consistently came up big in key playoff games.
Behn Wilson had all the tools to be a dominant defenseman, but he was never able to put it all together. IN his defense though the Flyers should have given him a year in the minors before they rushed him into the NHL.
I agree with Jsaq, Coburn is fine if he is paired with a better partner or kept on the 2nd pairing. He is simply never going to be a number 1 or even a strong number 2 defenseman. I have no problem trading him as part of a package to get a better defenseman, but I would be wary of moving him for prospects/picks. |

The biggest issue with Briere waiving is the custody issues beyond this season. He signed a deal to spend the whole year in Germany if the lockout went on. But that was only one year.
I think he'd be open to waiving if he got a promise that the other team would agree to a compliance buyout after the season, so he'd be free to do the best he can for his family this summer.
That is totally my opinion and may well not be the case. It's all conjecture and supposition. No hard facts, outside of the deal with the German team to spend all year there. |

That's what I'm thinking if it goes down
Couturier + for Ryan and then Read + for Yandle. - Jsaquella
Would we even have the cap space to make that work after we give Giroux has 8-9 mil a year deal |

I wouldn't package Couturier for Ryan unless it was in a bigger deal. Maybe get Read and Couturier involved on the Flyers side and Ryan and Fowler/Sbisa on the Ducks. Construct a deal around that.
Preferably I'd try to package Couts for Shattenkirk, Yandle or Byfuglien if I was going to trade him. - NickTheKid87
I'd trade Couturier and Read for Ryan and Fowler - that would be nice. |

Shea Weber signed a 14 year deal to come here. Seems like he was cool with it. |

Yes. But you'd be buying out Briere and Timonen's $6mm is off the books the same summer Giroux gets his raise. |

Well he ain't going anywhere now. You can't trade an injured player. If he's done for the season... he's probably going to ride out his time in Philly this year at least. |

Lines tonight, based on morning skate:
15-28-93
19-10-17
12-25-24
26-14-36
At this point Laviolette is using a Yahtzee dice cup to pick lines. - Jsaquella

Briere to Habs would strictly be a TDL deal
A Couturier for Ryan swap would have to have more moving pieces and doesn't address the need for a defenseman. Unsure how they'd address that. - Jsaquella
Two of my buddies, one a Leafs fan and one a Sens fan, both agree that the Flyers could use two new defensemen, not just a #1 mobile one. I think someone mentioned a deal something like Coots, Read, and Gus for Ryan and Fowler. To accommodate Ryan as a RW, I think you mentioned swapping Simmonds in a deal for a #1 d-man. Let's say that deal is Simmonds+ for Yandle, with working parts TBD.
Hartnell-Giroux-Ryan
????-Schenn-Voracek
Gagne-Laughton-Talbot
McGinn-????-Rinaldo
Yandle-Coburn
Timonen-Schenn
Fowler-Grossmann
Do we actually prefer this lineup? |

You can trade an injured player. The NHL has no rule forbidding the trading of an injured player. They do require the injury to be disclosed and accepted by the team acquiring the player, but the trading of injured players is perfectly legal. |
