They may not score, defend, check or skate well...but their Battle Level was off the charts! |

I have to admit I never envisioned Chara turning into what he has, I thought he had a shot at being good but his skating was so atrocious it was tough to see. I think his first game was a preseason with the Rangers(?) and I was at the game. It was some of the worst skating I've ever seen - Cptmjl
I liked him for his reach and hated when we dealt him but I agree, I never envisioned seeing him skate like he does now. A couple of weeks ago he pulled off a beautiful spinorama and shot for a goal...I thought I was watching a giant Paul Coffee.....Good thing it only took him, Muckult and Spezza to get Yashin!
To think it was the Spezza part that pissed me off most that day.... |

Streit's +/- is actually better this year but you would'nt think it was? Him and Boyes single handidly ruined that PP in overtime last night, I was screaming at the TV |

Again, just being honest here( ) but I was happy with that trade. I thought it was ballsy and Yashin was(and still is IMO)a good player. The contract was just brutal. The excitement when we got Peca, Yashin, plucked Osgood off waivers was the best since 93'. When they went on to win I think the first 12 out of 13 I was pumped. It was a good year. If we just won that game 7 with Toronto things could've been different. Maybe for the worse? Milbury may still be our GM |

Yeah...Streit looked like he was waiting for someone to give him the 'okay' to shoot. Way too much perimeter play on the power play last night.
Boyes is just awful. The kid has some talent but just isn't an effective player. He's not physical or intense enough for a third or fourth line role and he isn't consistaent enough for a top six line role. I'm not sure why Weight insisted Garth should sign him. |

I was one of the few who hated both trades that day. I didn't like giving up Pyatt and Connolly either but hated getting Yashin. I never bought into the idea that he played without effort but just didn't think he was as good as his goal production indicated. I also thought Spezza would have been a great addition with the pieces we had at that time..Mibury drafted a team capable of being a major force...but continually traded it all away. |

I obviously enjoyed the game yesterday like everyone else but those times when the Isles were in the offensive zone doing line changes and keeping it in pretty much at will it was all on the perimeter. They were'nt getting any shots through. It was awesome just to see them control play don't get me wrong but it was almost wierd. Their game was purely puck posession, shooting the puck was an after thought |

Oh I agree he drafted a few gems in his time. It's a shame really when you think about it which we've all done far too many times |

Amen...it's groundhog day on these boards when it comes to half our topics...but let's face it...few teams have as much fodder as we do!
I'm just happy to see that we're starting to have some positive things to talk about for a change....but also weary that this team has done this to us before |

I think most fans are hesitant to put both feet in the pool and rightfully so. I might as well commit to the positivity bcs it's going to suck either way if they crap the bed. |

I do agree with UIF that even if they narrowly miss, it's a decent step for the team. At this point, they're already experiencing a win or die climate for the rest of this season.
You and I were both talking a while back at how happy we were with Colin McDonald. I'd like to see this kid get a chance in Boyes spot. I think his ability to battle in the corners and be physical in front of the net is exaclty what JT needs. |

Definitely. He brings what the other 2 wingers don't have and thats some grit. And he definitely has some scoring ability. One of the best shifts i saw last night was when JT centered Mcdonald and Martin. Tons of pressure was put on the Flyers d and it gave all 3 lots of room when they had the puck. |

I agree too. It's nice to see improvement. If they don't make the PO's they still improved, it's something to build on. As far as McDonald I love the guy, I just hope he can hold it together consistently? That's always my knock with these AHL'ers. I would'nt mind seeing him on that line but I'd much rather see Martin. They both looked good with Tavares when Capuano decided to be a coach last night. Having a grinder on that line would be a good thing, either way Boyes needs to be moved to another line. The guy is so hard to watch at this point. I'm convinced he is there solely bcs of Snow billing him how he has. It seemed even Capuano had enough of him and was ready to do it after that post game interview but suddenly Capuano's tune changed? It was pretty strange. I'll bet you Garf had a little talk with him? All specualtion of course. |

Absolutely. They opened up a lot of space and both of them can muck it up along the boards unlike Moulson or Boyes. You can only hope that Capuano took note of it. Not to be a debbie downer but lets not forget just how bad the Flyers are this year, there were times last night where it seemed they just did'nt have a care in the world. Just gliding around and mailing it in and then at other times they'd snap out of it and start to play. It was an entertaining game none the less with excellent results of course. |

Yeah, that would be something I'd get on him about. Not the penalty shot. He is not having a good season, he does'nt seem to be to into it this year and this is coming from a fan of his. These guys should be all juiced and pumped up just bcs of where they are in the standings, they are for once still playing meaningful hockey. Frans included. |

I realize that stats rarely translate from the AHL to the NHL but McDonald was a 40 goal scorer at that level. One thing he seems to have over Martin is a nose for the net. He performs well in tight space. I'd prefer to see Martin stick with Cizikas since those two work well together. If Grabs is going to be relegated below the top 6, I'll take Martin/Cizikas/Grabner. That's a very well rounded line. |

That was a bad penalty...made worse by the inability to just get that puck the heck out of the crease at the end during that mad scramble. Feels like the Isles have bad luck with those scrambles at both ends of the ice. Some of the bigger players in BPort had better luck with that in the offensive zone earlier this season before the lockout ended, so maybe things will change for the better soon. |
