Exactly.. the second you let it be known that you are looking to move someone.. their value decreases and it can create animosity with the player if they dont end up moved

This was the point I was making with Garth's interview a month ago. GM's never tip their hands in situations like this. If you're looking for a GM to say "yeah, we need help bad", that's when you should be dissatisfied with him because he's just advised the other GM's he NEEDS a deal. |

Presumably 2 years...does this signal the end of Steit, I wonder?
** I thought the '11m' was $11 million which really had me shocked....
to clarify....that's eleven minutes ago! |

I don't think the "11M" is the amount of the deal I think that the tweet was posted eleven minutes before I cut and pasted it. But, that might be the amount of the deal too. I think that it is much more likely Streit is dealt if Vis is re-signed and I have no problem with that, if Vis is re-signed. |

Yes, it's 'minutes'.
I do wonder though if he won't see at least around $8 million for two years. |

Let's face it, it wouldn't be a shock that we had to overpay to keep someone.
At some point the taboo of coming here should wear off. We now have two players who fought to stay off the team but then reported, liked it, decided to move here and resign...
With Barclays coming and this team flirting with a playoff spot, our UFA options should start picking up. |

"IF" he signs... that has to be a HUGE neon billboard that says "Hey Long Island is the place to be" after how much he & Nabby didnt want to come here.

What if Vis has already told the team he is going back to the mother land at the end of the season & since he is 36 already... They made a deal with him to sign a 2 years deal for silly money... he can get something up front for signing it.... go back home & we have an unpaid cap hit for 4-5 million the next 2 seasons?

I think the NHL might step in if we have two players on the cap with unpaid salaries. Although somewhere Colin Campbell still lurks in the darkness....

To my understanding, they could toll the contract like they did with Nabby if he doesn't play this year. Now perhaps they can but it no longer counts against the cap?
Of course there's always the chance that the Isles have a deal in place for Vis which is dependent upon him siging an extension.... |

yes they can toll him, but the hit would not count against the cap untill he reports,

This was Per Bob McKenzie
"Which is ideal for NYI. No acquisition price. NYI can toll contract to next year if they like, continue to get cap benefit in perpetuity" |
