good time to break up our crappy patchwork team - 2Real
what if no one wants the Flyers UFAs to be?
it takes two teams to make a trade. |

Buzzcut! How's the water in your tires?
Last time they were really good? 2009-10 until about Mid-November when they fell so far it cost Stevens his job. - Flyskippy
That sounds familiar ... Was the last really dominant regular season 1985-86?
The tires are watered for Spring.

Flyers won't finish below Florida and Colorado (I think).
They likely will be in the bottom 5 though, especially with the injuries.
With the draft lottery I hope for the best but expect the worst.

Any pick, properly vetted, has a lot of potential; any pick inside the top 10 this year is almost certainly an upgrade for the Flyers.
Jones, Nurse, Zadorov, Ristolainen...apparently if we drafted any one of them they would immediately become the top prospect, across all positions, for the Flyers.
I think we should send Feds somewhere, let him play in the post-season, and get something in return for one of our few valuable ufa assets. |

I think Iginla said 4 teams, then when it came to the last moment told Feaster he preferred to be a Pen. Feaster accommodated him because he is Iginla.
The deals offered were not significantly different (at least to me, I guess if you follow the prospects closely maybe there is a bigger difference).
And a first pick and two prospects is in reality pretty fair for a 35 yr old rental even if it is Iginla. - Marc D
But apparently (and none of us really know), the deal with Boston was done, meaning Feaster and the Flames liked what they were getting, but Iginla put the kibosh on it.
And based upon all the reports of Iginla being a Bruin - it went beyond speculation to a done deal with all the details - it seems likely something like that happened.
I just read Ryan Miller gave a list of the 8 teams he wouldn't play for...meaning 21 teams he'd be ok accepting a trade to. I respect that a lot more.
Granted, I understand Iginla's reasoning, but that doesn't mean I haven't lost a lot of respect for him and in no way want him to get his name on the cup. Lots of solid, respectable, stand-up players have never even gotten to the finals, so I'm not inclined to feel bad for Jarome.
"Later that night, around a quarter to 12, I got a call from Jay saying it was the player's choice and he opted to go to Pittsburgh," Chiarelli said. "So we were out."

I guess I can understand his desire to go play with Crosby.
It does have a bad flavor to it, and it might motivate Boston a lot if those two meet in the play offs. |

Time for my old ESPN standard, "Skippy Stats." This is the Flyers' record when scoring 2 or less goals compared to scoring 3 or more.
2 or less goals scored:
4-15-2 (1 SO loss, 1 OT loss - 1 SO win)
3 or more goals scored:
9-2-1 (1 SO loss - no SO wins)
The fact that the team has scored 3 or more goals just 12 times out of 33 games is rather lackluster. That's not very much goal support at all. - Flyskippy
shows that we need to fix our defense so we can win those 2 goal games |

Don't forget the point Jsaq brought up the other day: Bruins' owner Jeremy Jacobs was notorious this past lockout for his hard-line stance against the players. No better way to get back at him than to refuse a trade there.

Its posts like this that drag down the whole room. This from the guy who is most concerned about shootouts.

My apologies.
I am not sure about the shootout reference but I am sure it must have been important for you to mention it. |

By the way, an interesting stat. Apparently 13% of NHL games have gone to a shootout in the past seven years. Probably right to be concerned about it.

He did. Then, he changed his mind, leaving Mr. Jacobs team holding the bag. Unscrupulous? Surely, but if the goal was to get a jab in at Jacobs, he certainly accomplished it to a degree. |

Does anyone know how the draft lottery works this year? Is it only the first pick that is subject to draft, or the entire order of non-playoff teams? Is there protection that you can't fall more than x number of places.
Yes, like many Flyers fans I have a fatalistic attitude about the draft, and am expecting Kane redux! |

This year all teams not making the play-offs have a chance to get the #1 pick. However no team can lose more than 1 spot in the standings. So say #14 wins the lottery then they would drop to #1 and everyone else would adjust one back.
Stealing from Nick earlier in the week here are the percentages:
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=658503
The likelihood of each team gaining the right to the first pick is as follows:
Team 1 25.0%
Team 2 18.8%
Team 3 14.2%
Team 4 10.7%
Team 5 8.1%
Team 6 6.2%
Team 7 4.7%
Team 8 3.6%
Team 9 2.7%
Team 10 2.1%
Team 11 1.5%
Team 12 1.1%
Team 13 0.8%
Team 14 0.5%

The Flyers can trade mostly anybody. They have some pieces but thats up to the GM if he thinks its going to improve the club. |
