sad part is someone will pay that...Thats what stinks about Briere, Coburn and Mez could have gotten something for either of those guys. Briere will be bought for nothing in return. - flyerfan28
Despite his undeniably bad play I still love Danny B. Its kinda sad. Do you think he knows hes going to get bought out at this point?
Also if I am understanding the CBA right if he retires before his contract ends we still get the cap hit...which would basically ruin our cap situation

No, that would only apply had he signed the contract after the new CBA or signed a contract when he was 35 or older. The Flyers are only on the hook for his cap hit as long as he's a member of the team.

Okay also I have some ideas for the off season....
***WARNING RANT APPROACHING***
So first topic: the 2013 draft. As much as we would love to get Seth Jones who will probably be the #1 Pick it will probably go to Florida or the Avs. I see us finishing the season a little better with the young D but still missing the playoffs by a longshot. Therefore we will not have a great chance at getting the number one pick in the lottery. I think the Flyers (unluckily ) will end up getting a pick between 5-7th.
Now heres my top choice: Valeri Nichushkin
I love his power forward type of play and how he is able to constantly control the puck, keep people off of him with strength, create space for himself, and charge the net. I think he is like 6'3 and 200 pounds. What do you think of him? Mock Drafts have him going anywhere from 2nd to 14th....weird ..... Do you think he is ready for top six NHL minutes or even third line minutes? I personally would love him on the top line if he is up to the challenge. He is already playing top 6 minutes in the KHL.
What do you guys think? check out some highlights and you will see why I love him
Okay now offseasons moves: What do you guys think about Coburn + Read +2014 2nd --> Yandle? I hate to loose Read and the 2nd Round pick but Yandle is the kind of puck moving offensive defenseman we need.
Anyone have any interest in Landislav Smid? He is one of the few defensemen under 30 (27 I think) in Free Agency and he is only making 2.75 mil so we could sign for like 3.4 mil. He could be a good solid 5th/6th Defenseman.
And last point...Who would you trade Coburn or Mezaros? I think Coburn. Despite his bad play he has more value than the "glass man"
Basically This is how I would like lines to look:
Nichushkin - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Schenn - Simmonds
Gagne - Couturier - Talbot (or Rinaldo)
(Not sure for 4th Line)
What do you think? (pending Nich is up for the challenge).
Also Give Bryz another chance. One more season to prove himself with some defense...if he doesnt then buy out. Any interest in Anton Khubodin (Boston's Backup)? He is a free agent this year and Boston might not need him depending on Malcolm Subban's development.

RANT OVER...sorry - FrmRusiaWifGlov
Nichushkin is all over the board, mainly because he's Russian. Big kid, supposedly solid two way. Loads of skill, but not a natural scorer. Definitely worth taking if they're at 5 or 6.
In terms of readiness, he might stay in Russia for awhile, or at least until after the Sochi Olympics.
I think that's too much for Yandle, myself. I could got Read and a pick, but I wouldn't add Coburn, as well. I'd also prefer to keep Coburn and Meszaros, unless they land a young defenseman who can immediately step in as a third pair guy in the draft or somebody blows me away. Hard enough to land one defenseman, let alone two.
I like Smid, but he's a stay at home, shot blocking type, and they have a few of them.

i'd stay away from russians they can be major head cases at times
I hate the penguins so (frank)ing much. I hope crysby has a conky and never plays again. That joke franchise didnt deserve him in the first place, it was a favor from gary buttman to mario ledouche.

Thanks for the welcome here. I used to think that to post here you need to pay money so I have been reading for a while
Okay yeah I thought it might be a little bit of an overpayment. What about this though Laughton + Coburn --> Yandle? Overall I would be okay with keeping Coburn, but I am just trying to get a sense of what it would take to get Yandle because: Big Buff is not leaving WIN, Shattenkirk is not leaving STL, Bouwmeester is not worth the price, and Boyle is too old and has too high of a cap hit. I think Yandle is the perfect fit.
I agree about the smid part but Free Agency is pretty slim. Who would you go after in Free agency?
And I like Nich because he can keep other players off the puck in a Jagr like way. I know he will never be as good as Jagr but he does posses that part of the skill set. He plays in the dirty areas and fights for goals.

I think thats a little played up at times. Bryz certainly doesnt help the stereotype. I actually met Nich in toronto once. It a was last year but he seemed like a nice guy and really down to earth...We will see how he turns out

The Cap Advantage Recapture rule counts for all contracts 7 years or longer signed prior to the 2013 CBA. So that rule could apply to Briere and the Flyers in the future, if he retires before his current contract is over
And the Recapture rule does not apply to a player who signed a deal when the player was 35 or older.
For anyone who wasn't there, this was fan appreciation day. That includes the Flyers' players giving the jersey off their backs to fans. My wife was lucky enough to be selected. They give each person an envelope and they open it on the ice.
She's a huge Mike Knuble fan. She didn't get Mike Knuble.
She's a big Max Talbot fan. He was already gone by the time they go to her.
She thinks Wayne Simmonds is hot. He was also already taken.
So she had to settle for Claude Giroux's jersey. - jmatchett383
Saw this yesterday but didn't get a chance to respond. Congrats!
