Haven't had a dman return a 1st rd pick in over 3 years. I think a 2nd would be most likely for him. - keaner17
He is worth a first.
I actually heard a second this year, and a conditional first if the team resigns him next year!!!! |

The bigger problem in getting anything better than a 2 for Streit is that there are other 'offensive dmen' available. Brian Campbell, Bouwmeister and a couple of others will make that portion of the market a bit more difficult to get top value. |

You might have a point there. Those other guys aren't exactly as cap friendly though. |

Campbell's signed at a cap hit of over $7m for the next three seasons after this one...tough for a contending team to absorb that...and JBo has a no-trade clause that could complicate things...or at least limit what Calgary can get for him if he'll only go to a few teams on a list or whatever.
Edit -- you'd also need to be able to fit JBo's $6.68M cap hit in for next season, since he's still signed, and the cap will be going lower, so, like Campbell, it might be tough for team that's already a contender and probably has big contracts of its own to absorb that. |

Shoulda been moved

Tough decision... took a gamble.
If he resigned it would have been great.
If we traded him for a second... people would have been upset for trading him for another pick.
Everybody keeps complaining they want NHL ready players... not picks and prospects. |

That never happened... they wanted to resign him so they didn't trade him.
They wanted to keep negotiating with him. - jimmc7722
With all due respect, it came from two decent sources... |

I don't know. There were people saying keep him and people saying trade him, but I'm pretty sure there was rare universal agreement here that if he couldn't be re-signed by the deadline, get something rather than lose him for nothing.
I still say it was too risky to do that with Nabby as well even though they did get him re-signed. Team loses all its leverage and options when it keeps players with expiring contracts after the deadline. If you're in the playoff race or going for it all, it's understandable, but the Isles were neither last season. |

Tonight and tomorrow are huge... I personally would like to have Streit for one more year.
Even if he signed the same deal Vis did.... with the no movement except in the last year @ the trade deadline. |

Presently there are only three teams that can't absorb Bouwmeister's cap hit (Philly, Minn, Vancouver). |

It is April fools day meaning Reasoner will score and The Isles will play the best defensive game of the year. The Rangers will also score five goals today. Richards with a hattrick |

That's exactly what I was expecting. I don't mind having him for one more year but I have a feeling he's looking for 3-4. I definitely don't want to commit to him for a term like that. He's simply not THAT good. |

I find it hard to believe...Miller too...I can't see the Sabres trading either one. It'd turn a two-year "re-tooling" into a full-fledged long-term rebuild. But yeah, there are a bunch rumblings about them being available. Would love to see Vanek on Tavares' wing, obviously. - UIF
Again, if Vanek is on the block, they are going to want at least a pick and a prospect or two...that's the deal you might have to make, and I'm pretty sure I would, as long as Wang is willing to write that check. On a line with Tavares, he'd be a top scorer in the league. That's a player who would upgrade us significantly, and at some point, some of the largesse we've acquired over the last three or four years in the draft needs to be put to use. You can only dress 18 and 2, so we can't have 6 centers and 9 right wings or whatever on the team, anyway. We might as well move forward, now that it's pretty clear what we need to do so. |

If you can pry Vanek away for the Isles first rounder and a prospect, you have to do it. It's Vanek we're talking about. Just imagine him with Tavares every night. |

I'd rather see the Islanders bring up some their young guys like Nino, Nelson, Strome, Peden, etc. instead of spending a lot for a veteran unless the price is right..on that note here are some trades/ rumors that were on twitter:
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 5m
SJ trades Handzus to CHI
Patrick Caisse @PatrickCaisse 22m
Buffalo Sabres asked Jason Pominville to prepare a list of eight teams where he doesn't want to be traded. #NHLTradeDeadline
Chris Botta @ChrisBottaNHL 28m
Can't hurt to ponder trade offers while working on contract extension. Mark's no kid. RT @slapshot86 What's going on with Streit?
NHLSourcesSay @NHLSourcesSay 48m
*TRADE ALERT* Flyers acquire Ryane Clowe, pending trade call. |

If Douglas Murray is worth two second round picks then Streit is easily worth a first. |

Yep...take a lesson from the Parenteau experience. We asked for a 1 and never got it so he walked... - keaner17
If there's no chance we can sign him, then you might as well get something for him. But while I don't love his defensive play, he's offensive skills are more deservant than a 2nd. We got a first for Campoli! I think Streit has more value and a better reputation to other teams than PA had last season. I think Streit gets a first or a very decent player at the deadline. He's a player that can put a contender over the edge...PA wasn't that guy. |

But trades haven't been working that way...teams are dealing multiple lower picks rather than 1st rders. So Streit might only get 3 2nd rounders or 2 seconds and a third. |

I think it was Campoli and Comrie for a first and McAmmond, no? I just think Streit is more valuable to the team than anything less than a first...especially if there's a glimmer of hope for the playoffs. There will be a glimmer of hope by the time the deadline hits no matter what happens. Last year with PA, the isles were in a much different situation. |
